My Jesus was never lost. He's plastic and glued to the dashboard of my car. I don't care if it rains for freezes as long as I've got my plastic Jesus. Sitting on the dashboard of my car. Sorry that always makes me want to break out…

About Me
I am Saint Fillan, patron saint of insanity and mental disorders.

Does it sound weird to say, I would like my daughter to meet a nice, Atheist boy?

Outside of sainthood, I am a native of the southeastern US, living in the Atlanta metro area for the last 16 years. I grew up as a beach brat and still have a great love of the ocean. My professional life has centered on the education of young children. I am the mother of 3 children, each with amazing talents and a well developed sense of humor. My two younger children are in 2nd and 4th grades, while my eldest daughter started college this year. Our family enjoys music, movies, and theatre! We love the outdoors...particularly swimming & camping.

I have always been an avid reader. I usually have 3 books going at any given time - 1 fiction, 1 nonfiction, and something work related. For fun, I read about anthropology, philosophy, and religion. Also, I shamelessly indulge my addiction to compilation books of trivial knowledge. Some of my other favorite pastimes are photography and videography.

Over the last year or so, I have been learning about the “New Atheist” movement, which I find intriguing. At first, I thought it funny there were atheist groups like this one. I remember a joke from years ago...something about why do atheists need a group...to get together and say “Do you believe in god?” “Nope. How ‘bout you?” “Still No.” “Okay then, see you next week.”

I have been an atheist all of my life; and it has never been a very big deal to me...except when I was a teenager doling out my Thor’s Hammer world views. I have always been “out,” never lied or hidden my lack of religion, never been oppressed or attacked, never lost a job or a friend over religion. I enjoy listening to others talk about their beliefs. I always make time to talk to the pamphlet bearers and “Do you have a personal relationship with Jesus?” queriers. I don’t pick a fight or try to de-convert, just talk openly. I know there are psychos and zealots out there, but most of my personal experiences with people of faith have been positive. I have worked in nonprofit for many years, and I have to say the churches are doing most of the volunteering, donating, and supporting of charities. So I do think it is important for atheists to become more visible in the community.

I also understand how hard it is for us to assemble. The old “herding cats” analogy...free-thinkers don’t like groups, don’t like group mentality, don’t like being forced into a mold, and so on. I am 100% guilty as charged. I don’t agree with many of the opinions I hear atheists spouting, and many of the ones I do agree with, I don’t think have anything to do with the “Atheist Movement.” I don’t want to be lumped in with the “angry atheists” or the “positive atheists” or the “humanists” or the “moderates.” I don’t want to have to call myself some silly name like a “Bright” or a “Free Thinker.” I don’t want to adopt anyone else’s SYSTEM of beliefs or belong to an elitist group. I am just a person with no religious beliefs...default position...no affiliation...no propaganda... no zealotry...no fantasism.

And yes...I do believe some atheist treat atheism like another religion. But I am trying to be patient with that; as I think most of them are newly de-converted. Like a new ex-smoker, or a recovering alcoholic or a new vegetarian...they have to have to go on and on about it and try to convince everyone how great it is on the other side.

I also think there are a lot of really cool and interesting people in the atheist “community,” and I am continually impressed by the diversity. I have become interested enough that I maintain a blog consisting of atheist humor, articles on the separation of church & state, and any other atheism stuff I find interesting; and I have a YouTube channel dedicated to atheism.

Can't we all just laugh along?

Come on...this religion stuff is some funny shit.

You know how some religious people automatically assume other religious people are moral?
I automatically assume other Atheists are intelligent...I have to stop doing that. ;)

Greetings, Saint Fillan! I notice you haven't been active at Atheist Nexus lately. <sigh> Sometimes it can seem a bit fragmented, with different groups for every interest. Please consider a group for socializing, where we talk about whatever's on our minds, Hang With Friends. :D You might feel more at home.

We've been restructuring the cast and got our old cast leader back, and now everything is much better there.

Are you the one who came with 3-4 kids from Cobb a few weeks ago? You guys were awesome!

Ah, you've seen us? Most people go to Lips Down on Dixie at The Plaza these days. They are extremely screen-accurate. We're not.
