My real name is Bill, born in Indiana but grew up in Minnesota, I've pretty much lived here since I was 8. My parents are ex-catholic and ex-baptist and more agnostic now. My first memories of exploring and realizing that religion was a silly notion was while I was still in Indy. I was going to a baptist church and was part of the christmas pageant playing one of the wisemen and I kept asking all these questions and none of the answers made sense to me. Eventually I quit going and told my parents in that kids voice, and more likely because I was a kid, that church was boring and I didn't want to go anymore.
After that I never really paid attention to religion again until I was a boy scout and it seemed to play a significant role in that organization. I quietly backed out of the BS (hehe...yes, I am implying that).
So up until a few years ago I quietly lived my life and only told my closest friend of my heresy (phhhfftt) but they were cool enough to respect that.
I'm a geek of all varieties. I love fantasy and science fiction. I'm and RPG geek (mostly D&D and WoD), an IT geek including playing MMO's, I love comic books (mostly DC), and SF & Fantasy movies of all kind. Though I don't have the training for it, I love reading about science in all it's forms. In that same vein II dabble a little with podcasting, right now being the narrator for a Audiodrama about zombies.
Within the last few years, living in a small town of 2000 people, like minded people are far and few in-between and I started exploring online people of the same way of life. I've discovered the skeptic movement and branched out from there. One of the things that really caught my attenion was the whole ID movement and the political and goverment movement that they have begun to interfere with. I can say thanks to George Bush and his presidency he has made me become more outspoken and proud of being an atheist. SO I guess something good came from that man.
I've recently started reading the pro-science and Atheism books and have started kicking around the idea of a blog/podcast that examines my life in a small town as an atheist, hence my online name STAAG (Small Town Atheist And Geek).

Browsing fellow Minnesotan’s pages, I came across a comment you made a while back on the page of Anthony from Blackduck. You mentioned you had a friend, with the last name Houseman from Blackduck, who is a teacher. I had a roommate in college for a year named Pete Houseman who was also from the Blackduck area and was an education major at the time. Given the size of Blackduck, the odds are pretty good we are talking about the same person.
If you could, please tell Pete that Kyle his roommate from college says hello. Have a wonderful godless day fellow Minnesotan atheist.
Hooray for Minnesota! And a geek, too! I'm also a sci-fi fan, mainly Star Trek (TNG, DS9, Voyager). It's nice to finally find a community for us like-minded people!

I wasn't a artist, ie not that big into art. However he was a good teacher IMO...

Great to see more Minnesotans trickling onto the Nexus.
