I have read Red Mars and Green Mars, they were okay, there were a few long periods of abject boredom i had to fight thru, but all in all it was well written and the science was almost spot on, even including the theoreticals.

freethinker. caught somewhere between Roddenberry, and Sagan. I have a beautiful ex-wife who is my best friend. We have two great children, a daughter 17, and a son 11. Both of whom have been taught that science is the best tool we have for learning about our origins and surviving far into the futureI was not always an atheist, but i had questions at the earliest ages that were never given satisfactory answers. So doubt about my protestant up bringing was strong. Being born and raised in the heart of the old confederacy I witnessed gender, racial, and sexual discrimination,and hatred almost on a daily basis. Fortunately I was also exposed to music and the theatre not to mention my mother and two older sisters. Yes I credit the feminine influence in my life for keeping me from straying down the dark road of ignorance and bigotry. Although all three are believers, they are not haters.Ten years in the Marine Corps, and currently now the National Guard, also ( oddly enough) broadened my perspectives.I give the most credit for my deconversion to Carl Sagan, Gene Roddenberry, and Kim Stanley Robinson. Star Trek was always there it just took many years for the full message to sink in, Robinson brought the vision to the near future, and made it more scientifically plausible. Sagan well I dont think that needs any explanation to you folks.I strongly believe in freedom of speech. I believe that the key to our species survival is the scientific method. And I believe consensual sex in ALL its forms is a very good thing. And while im all for clean air and water, and ethical treatment of animals I feel much stronger about housing ,feeding and protecting the human species.Any way that's a little about me, o my spelling is generally atrocious, so please forgive any mistakes that will ensue. I'm thrilled to be a member of this site
