I am a moderate Democrat but I consider myself as someone who leans to the right on such issues such as illegal immigration, foreign policy, and keeping our homeland safe and going after terrorists and rogue regimes. I admire Christopher Hitchens…

I'm a libertarian atheist.  If you had to classify me as conservative I guess you could, but it wouldn't be really true.  I believe in the non-initiation of force.  That being no man or government has the right to…

Michael replied to Ruth Dickson's discussion 'Are There Any Conservative Atheists?'
There are plenty of conservative atheists.  I'm one of them.  But the main reason that you don't hear much from them is that they tend to not speak up about being conservative.    As most of them discover, admitting to…

Keith O'Connor replied to Ruth Dickson's discussion 'Free Will?'
Excellent and true. You stated the case beautifully. Add to this the physics viewpoint that time is a block, with the past, present and future all there, all happening at the same time and eternally, and free will disappears. If the future is…

I think we should get together and change this state of affairs by writing at least one atheist anthem.

A Question for Believers that you might find useful in discussions.

The following was published on Gather.com after the posting of still another xtian rant. Feel free to use it whenever it might apply.

A Question for Believers

August 29, 2009 04:29 PM EDT

I posed this question in several different forms on the thread of a post that declared those of us who could or would not accept the "fact" of god's existence were just being obstinate, obdurate, obtuse or, in her words "intentionally ignorant". The gist of her… Continue

A Grandmother's Lament

I thought I had done everything right. I knew they had to be carefully taught to stay on the path, strong in their convictions, to resist peer pressure, reject conventional thinking and make their own decisions. I assiduously kept them from the insidious influences of dogma, ritual, superstition and belief in mythical beings, including Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, unicorns and gods of any kind. I taught them to read everything, believe nothing until proven to their… Continue

He's Coming Soon...to a Theater Near Me!!

This modest little flyer was found in my (Jewish) podiatrist’s office, amidst the copies of Esquire, Rod and Gun, Modern Maturity and a pile of similarly unrelated publications. Just lying there, virtually unnoticed! How can this not be an international headline? A scheduled appearance by The Savior himself in one small Florida landfill community! Why was this earth-shattering event not heralded by trumpets and hosannas from on high? Why… Continue

Punk'd Again, By God!

The following was written last year, after a tornado ripped through a nearby area. I thought it would be enjoyed by my fellows in faithlessness.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Once more, that loving Christian god has shown his capricious sense of irony by hurling killer tornadoes at still another Florida trailer park. (Oops.. make that “mobile home community”…wouldn’t want to be p.i. in a godicle). The sick humor here is that this most recent assault was on a retirement community,… Continue
Thanks for the invite to join this very interesting group. Interesting because even when we begin with a seemingly singular and unifying idea of non belief in god, we are as different from each other as any group formed for any reason. There does seem to be a more humor here, or is it our shared and highly developed irreverence for all hardened ideas?
Ouch! That stings, Ruth. Especially coming from someone that I respect so much. However, I understand and appreciate your opinion. Take good care.
Hi Ruth! You seem like someone I need to know -- I love your spirit! I'm also a huge LOST fan and noticed you mentioned it here somewhere.
I'm looking forward to reading more of your writings and checking out your books.
Maybe we can talk LOST sometime.
Fellow fiercely devout atheist,
