You go, man.  I've done a couple of atheism-themed services at my UU, and they've always been well-received.  I think about 20% of our membership, if not more, identifies toward the "agnostic" or even more-skeptical end…

So. It's been almost 2 years. How did it go? ;-) A few of us at our congregation have considered proposing an "Atheist Panel Discussion" for one of our Summer services.

Practicing the Absence of God

Posted on March 21, 2010 at 5:48pm 2 Comments

Here's another Sermon from a UU Service I did:

Practicing the Absence of God

Ok. We’re UU’s we can handle the doubt stuff. But promoting the absence of God? What are you talking about? That’s crazy. Presence…

Darwin Day "Sermon"

Posted on February 21, 2010 at 2:00pm 1 Comment

Happy slightly belated 201st Birthday to Charles Darwin.

Darwin was a kind, compassionate family man who led an exemplary life. It’s been said that he had the “single greatest idea ever”. It changed the world. The one thing that Fundamentalist creationists are right about is that…

Saying Atheism is sort of like Asexuality

Posted on January 16, 2010 at 2:22pm 7 Comments

I always hate it when some non-atheist tries to define and explain what atheism means. They say things like, "Atheism means that you know there is no god. You can't be that certain." Or they say "Atheism means you are against theism and/or you hate god and religious people. I'm' thinking of trying this response out:

Many people think the term atheist by itself conveys a lot of hostility and presupposes unjustified certainty. To help you understand why that is not correct, consider… Continue

Marketing Christian Teen Sex

Posted on October 11, 2008 at 6:30am 0 Comments

There is a significant subset of Christians who somehow find great comfort in products stamped with a "Christian" label. While they proclaim the rejection of "worldly ways" they often adopt them by dressing up inferior knock off products in Christian god talk language and act as if that somehow provides value and morals. They feel they get automatic points for using a PrayStation instead of PlayStation, taking Scripture Mints instead of Altoids, or starting a collection of Holy Bears instead of… Continue

Atheist Vote 2008

Posted on September 8, 2008 at 5:09pm 2 Comments

How should a non-theist who values the separation of state vote in 2008? The quick answer, "against Sara Palin" may be too simple minded. Remember Penn Gillette's' warning that the lesser of two evils is still evil. Election 2008 presents a terrible dilemma. I don't have a clue as to what Atheists should do come Election Day 2008.

This is a year when no Atheist should feel entirely at ease in casting their vote. Any way I look at it, I will either feel guilty for what I "supported"… Continue

So...let me know about this UUism. My half-sister is a Unitarian, and she had a UU wedding. I'm very interested.

I have not been to Amicalola falls yet. It's on the to do list. If you want to do Whitewater, Glenn Falls is a must see on the way there. It's just before Highlands NC.

Glenn Falls has three different falls in series (can't see them all at once). There is some hiking getting to all 3 bottom views. Whitewater is very short from the parking lot and you go down wooden stairs from there to the viewing platform.

I went and found some pix about Whitewater Falls. Absolutely breathtaking! I love water falls. We had our honeymoon in Helen and Amicalola Falls. Amicalola has to be my favorite place on Earth. I have been going up there since before I could remember.
