A treatise on the nature of human nature.

Nature: red in tooth and claw. The ceaseless fighting and courting must go on for ever. There will never be a victor. We are merely animals. We fight, but over silly novelities and tribulations. When did we become so pathetic? Why can't we love with the fullness of our hearts and ply with the strength of all our muscles? We love - as any animal does - and yet we feel human love to be something special; something spiritual. We see with oft pessimistic and pejorative eyes and yet we feel outbursts…See More

Robert Head commented on Richard Haynes's blog post My Weekly Rant: Defending atheist fundamentalism?
"Ultimately, atheists are making a definite claim: that moral, scientific and logical arguments make impossible the existence of any deity. Atheists aren't fundamentalists. Atheists reject religious beliefs; they don't hold true to a…"

Robert Head replied to Not important's discussion Atheism & Marriage
"I would get married purely for its ceremonial value but I wouldn't take my vows. I think that no religious stigmatisms should be put on non-marriage or conceiving out of wedlock. If you love someone, marriage is irrelevant."

ORIGINS: UNIVERSE, LIFE, HUMANKIND, AND DARWIN

We debate origins of the Universe, life, Earth, humans, religion, atheism, using common sense, evolution, cosmology, geology, archaeology, and other sciences, to repel biblical creationism and other religious beliefs.

We see with oft pessimistic and pejorative eyes and yet we… Continue

Easter.

Posted on August 22, 2009 at 5:00pm 0 Comments

The festive side of Easter actually has nothing to do with Christianity. In norse religions, the rabbit is revered as heralding the coming of spring (because they fuck like mad in spring, producing untold numbers of offspring). A festival is held each year called 'Eostre' - named after the Norse goddess of spring. The eggs are just a cheap cash-in which have been designed to be given during the religious holiday weekend.

Why bother?

Do you ever feel like everything you say is prosaic and trite? No. Well, maybe it's just me. Every day, I wonder about just what it means to be human. All Britons speak the same language - more or less, and with differing levels of accuracy and understanding. Language systems are here to secure the means to communicate; without a common tongue it would be like Babel. That's obvious. But, what about the things we say; the relationships we lead. Aren't those, more or less, just the same? Do you… Continue

Bugs.

Posted on August 22, 2009 at 12:25pm 1 Comment

I stopped looking at bugs when I was ten. I thought I'd never see them again - the woodlouse carrying its eggs or the scuttling ants. But I didn't stop looking; I merely changed the subject. The bugs grew larger to human proportions - to humans.

With our nests, our queens, our prey and predators, our enemies, our rituals - we're no different. We're just bugs being bugs to the extreme. We're no more than the wasps and hornets of the world - only flightless.

Aren't we… Continue

On education.

Posted on August 22, 2009 at 12:24pm 0 Comments

I wear my A*s like a badge of honour. But what do they mean? Are they, as some people say, worthless compared to the worth of qualifications twenty years ago? Do they indicate a hard-worker or merely someone who's worked hard at absorbing the wrong ideas and ideals?

Such a person's grades will certainly guarantee them a good career - if they want want such a career and think it worth their pursuance.

Is such a person better than the man on the street just because of the… Continue

It was nice talking to you, too. You have a great sense of humor, and I LOVE pretty much anything British. I watch as much British TV is available here.

As for knowing any young atheists that you should talk to, I am at a loss. I am a middle-aged stay-at-home mother living in the middle of the Bible-Belt. I am surrounded by Christian hypocrisy, and judgment. I wish I could move. And the atheists are pretty scarce in my area.
