"Well I did ok with Google ads, about 100 to 300 a month at my old blogs height. But the blog followed something with a cultish in mentality and was based on a company I worked for at the time. T-shirts work well, but that involves and upfront cost,…"

Pope John Paul II's Failed Assassin Claims He Is Now Agca the Messiah

Posted on January 14, 2010 at 8:06pm 2 Comments

Mehmet Ali Agca is the Turkish gunman who shot but failed to assassinate Pope John Paul II in 1981. On January 18 2010 he is due to be released from his prison in Ankara.

"For around 30 years I have been staying in cells on my own. I experienced hell on earth. But in spite of everything I am well. I feel good in myself both physically and psychologically," he said. Many have questioned this self-diagnosis as Agca seems to be on a quest to anoint himself as the new… Continue

How to Make Some Money From Your Atheist Blog

Posted on August 6, 2009 at 4:30am 2 Comments

Blogs come and go, and atheist blogs are no different. However, there is one aspect of blogging on atheism, agnosticism and the whole family of faithlessness that has been bothering me for some time: how to make some money doing it? Now, anybody who has tried inserting some Google Adsense advertising on their blog or website immediately comes up against a problem – there are few if any relevant adverts. Perhaps worse than that, a lot of the advertising space has been bought by religious… Continue

God and Science Don't Mix - My Thoughts

Posted on July 30, 2009 at 11:37pm 6 Comments

My practice as a scientist is atheistic. That is to say, when I set up an experiment I assume that no god, angel or devil is going to interfere with its course; and this assumption has been justified by such success as I have achieved in my professional career. I should therefore be intellectually dishonest if I were not also atheistic in the affairs of the world.

— J.B.S. Haldane, “Fact and Faith” (1934)

Today, 26 May 2009, sees the opening of the "Galileo 2009" conference, organised by the Jesuit Stensen Institute and held in Florence. The first day takes place in the Basilica of Santa Croce, where Galileo is now buried, with the last day being held in the Villa "Il Gioello di Arcetri", where Galileo spent his last years. Today's Osservatore Romano has two articles… Continue

Atheism on the Rise Among Canadian Teens

Posted on April 10, 2009 at 4:11am 0 Comments

Project Teen Canada has been conducting surveys on the religious affiliations of teenagers since 1984. Its latest findings show that Canadians are becoming more polarised into believers and non-believers. The number of faithless has grown almost three-fold whereas Christians have dropped below 50% for the first time. There has also been a steep rise in believers of other faiths, although this is largely due to immigrants. One minor point is that the new data for 2008 only adds up to 93% rather… Continue
