- In Iran things are not going well really, people are frustrated and considering the huge rise in the Oil price the Islamic Republic has now more power than before. The money is going to the military and the revolutionary guards.
Election had never been fair and free here, there is a supervisory council chosen by the religious leader who qualifies nominees to allow them to become candidates. This council recently even disqualifies conservatives who have a bit of open mind!
People are desperate, some say we have to boycott the elections others believe that won't do any good, we have to take part and at least select the bad to prevent the worse. (This is how Ahmadinejad got selected, people did not want the other guy: rafsanjani)
Ant the son of late Shah, he is an living example of stupidity. He doesn't believe in democrasy, he supports some sort of constitutionalized kingdom, in which he himself is going to be the "king".
No doubt, the Islamic Republic is evil, and this is one of those rare occasion when Bush is right but the situation here is by far much better than the Saudi Arabia (and they are not on the evil list!), so US is not fair and honest! And this is because of the Iranian people and the 150 years history of struggle for democracy. As an athiest here I do not have any problem with the people, the come to me, ask me questions, respect me, listen carefully when I critisize their religion,... I mean society is very much ahead of the regime!
I do hope there won't be any conflict between Iran and the US, you will hardly find two nations in the world, who have this much of mutual interests and yet are enemies!

I posted the bulk of this on another thread, but wanted to add some context separately.
I finally confronted my faith and embraced the fact of my atheism late last August, 2012. Days after I revealed my "epiphany" to a few friends who knew me from another message board, my sister died from Lou Gehrig's Disease (which pissed her off because she hated catching a disease from someone she never f---ed).
THAT was my sister, understand? She was a beautiful, life-loving, potty-mouthed…

OK. I am venting. My mother died two weeks ago. She was a “god fearing christian.” Before her death she refused all medical treatment. She wanted to be left alone. She even refused to speak with my brother who is a methodist minister. He is a pip, let me tell you! This probably should not have shocked me as much as it did (especially since I am in Texas). I actually thought my coworkers were playing a joke on me because they know I am an atheist. Sadly, this was no joke. This actually happened.
