Mondo Diablo Episode 269 is Bacchanalia Part I: The Last and Least

Welcome to the first part of a big three-parter!

I have enjoyed Peter Schickele and his disovery, P.D.Q. Bach for, garsh, 25 years at least, for "Bob's" sake. Funny I haven't shared much with you yet. well, not so funny (yes, so funny). All of my music is on vinyl. So, I had to do an epic search and and epic emptying of my bank acco… Continue

Mondo Diablo Episode 267: Satan: The Lesser of Two Evils

Turns out I'm not the only one who thinks that one of the great injustices of the Christian religion is its portrayal of Satan as The Greatest Evil, which isn't even warranted by biblical standards. This week, I read these two essays:

About Me
Just call me Aunty Christ!

My goal is to live my life "post-atheist." I don't want to have to think about the harm religion is doing or has done. Unfortunately, I still have a "flare-up" now and then, and I have to deal with the ex-christianity.

I was in a very conservative church/school during my childhood and puberty, and it left me an embittered hag/cheerful hellbound harlot. When an evangelist for beliefy things says "you're an atheist? Oh, something bad must have happened to you," I tend to say, "why, yes, that's true. You must be aware that religious upbringing tends to damage people."

I know as well as you all that it doesn't always stop there. Bitterness and hatred, while popularly a "bad thing," can lead you into positive growth (nowhere to go but up). It sucked? Find out why. Give it a name. Ritualized sado-sexual corporal punishment. Masochistic protestant porn. Brain clearing-houses. Machoistic Gynophobia. Theocratic auto-homophobia. Nuclear family idolatry. Occultic demon worship. Group roleplay. All can be found at the Good House Eucharistic Presbypentacosto methodolic-One-God Church of Jesus in His name saved Bible Amway Step-Right-Up and pay your tithe Prosperity Friends Quaking in the Blood of the Unrighteous.

I need to suck out the bitter fruitjuice that collects in my brainstem once in awhile, like the Holy Process of Womanhood, because that's exactly what it is in Wenatchee, Washington. Most ladies here let that fermented cranberry run through their veins until out springs forth new crotchfruit ready to boil and can and catholify, and worship when it has the rodstaff, and make Apprentice when it is a Vessel.

My city is a Crappy Summer movie to forget before the last bits of Mike and Ike dissolve from the dentalwork. My city is to escape, until Stephen King reveals There's No Where Else to Go.

At least, that's what I thought until I lived in Montreal for 4 years, the Island that replaced autohomomachopredispensationalism with Provincial Franco-Politicopinkolanguil bullshit. Which is still 20,000 leagues better than here.

Yet here I am. This Whore on the Columbia calls to me when I heed the call of the Department of Homeland Security to register my husband's number, to slide his crate into the Warehouse of Indiana Jones, never to be found again. So I go forth to seek a suitable replacement to La Belle Province, perhaps a jolie hippy compound in southern Washington one day.

It is true that many people take the path of religion to lead them out of destructive life styles. It is also true that people can do the same thing without a reliance on faith (you just don't hear about it as much). You sound like a very nice you…

I've seen posts about the 50 commandments of jeebus put out by xtians that cite chapter and verse and you really don't need a commentary to go along with them. Boy it sure does kill the whole GOP/Tea Party platform.

From the article Tommy cited. "However, religious commentators have criticized Hawking's theorizing, saying he can never hope to explain what is essentially unexplainable." Well doesn't that kind of invalidate their own "god" theory then? ;p

Anybody else read it? I love the basic premise, and being an atheist means I can appreciate the mythology and not get bent out of shape about the multiple deities.

Wyoming is better than the southeast, from what I've seen. It's still a solid red state, though. My big point was that there are no cities. The closest it has are Cheyenne and Casper, each of which are around 50,000 people. The entire state barely…
