I totally agree. I just finished reading The Lost Symbol, and was impressed up until the last few chapters. Highly disappointing. I've read all his other work and loved all of it. I was waiting for weeks for my library to get it in, and I could've...
Your post reminded me of this one:
Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent.
Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent.
Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil?
Is he neither able nor willing? ...
Welcome to the group.
When I was in high school and still forced to go to church with my parents, I remember coming home and playing an Elton John song called "if there's a god in heaven." My father got so mad he almost broke the record, but the ...
Morning! I'm a newcomer here so I thought I'd introduce myself. My name is Becky. I'm a 31-yr. old housewife. I was born with Spina Bifida and hydrocephalus. I'm proud to call myself a life-long atheist.

For atheists, agnostics, secular humanists, etc. who believe in expanding the definition of "person" to embrace human beings before birth as well as after.
A group of like-minded atheist who enjoy proselytising, feeling superior, and actively attempting to rid the world of its arguably most divisive and damaging force: religion.
Hi Rebecca,
I live in Eau Claire, and I agree with Bob Batton. Here in the North we're surrounded on all sides by the religious. To illustrate my point, I work at a Catholic institution, where hanging over my desk is a large crucifix. You know the kind, with a mini-sculpture of Christ's tortured corpse watching every move. Yuck. I'm glad to know I'm not the only godless Wisconsinite.

There's much to feel good about
because atheists and humanists hold the intellectual high ground—far from the mental slavery of superstitious people who submit to a narrow-minded controlling clergy with their imaginary god, heaven and hell.

I have argued about a similar issue before. Omnipotence is not possible in reality, and free will isn't possible if there is an omnipotent being. All we need to do is finding just one example of task that isn't possible to perform for anyone in re...
Not at all. I was not referring to anything you or her said specifically. Some of those things were clearly wrong. A few of them were just stupid, or attempting to get a negative response.
The ones that were specifically derogatory should have bee...
Doing more research on the European colonization of American continent, I was exploring the role religion played. I found reference to an event know as the Valladolid debate. This was a debate between Catholic intellectuals about the acceptable tr...

I have read a few of his books, years ago. Is that where he details the east-west axis in Eurasia for its timely acceleration at agriculture and permanent settlements, and the bottleneck in the western hemisphere for its lack of development in the...
This is actually an extension of a conversation on another forum regarding Job and the Dinosaurs. Quite frankly, I have no idea what Behemoth was, if it actually existed, and I am fully aware of the controversy over which parts of Job were Wisdom ...
