Certainly wet out there today in St. Louis, but the temp's 72 right now. Under a flash flood watch until tomorrow night though. Other than that, I'm fine, thanks for asking! =)

Hello Rachel. Welcome to this rational world of Internet atheism---a haven from the superstitions and fictional god of the masses.

We invite you to make good friends by joining the busy group "ORIGINS: Universe, Astronomy, Life, Earth, Humans, Religion, Gods, Atheism, Evolution, Darwin..." with its 450 discussion topics and 2550 members.

Thanks for the acceptance. I have found it fairly easy to come out since my daughter has graduated college she actually told me she was atheist/agnostic and i kind of laughed and said (ya know i guess i am too) honestly we never discussed it. I never labeled it or came out with it all my life but i knew i never believed in the fairtail books that were written ages ago. I actually find it funny that people put there faith in something like that. After that i told my sister and found out her and her husband and children are atheist as well and we never new this about each other. My dad always told us to think for ourselves and question everything, he was big on science. My mom believed in the bible no matter what and never questioned it and got quit angry if you questioned anything. I know they were one hell of a match, ha ha! Thank you for the friend request on fb as well. As you can see i surrounded myself with a large atheist support group on there and that helped with the few relatives i have on my site that kind of opposed my reasonable thought. I now feel really comfortable with who i am and i like reading a lot of the blogs. I know i just told you a lot, but i guess my point is it is scary to admit something like this in your life but ultimately you have to be true to yourself. If you need any support hopefully i can help.

Greetings, Rachel! I notice you haven't been very active at Atheist Nexus lately. <sigh> Sometimes it can seem a bit fragmented, with different groups for every interest. Please consider a group for socializing, where we talk about whatever's on our minds, Hang With Friends. :D You might feel more at home.

My first funeral as an atheist

Posted by Two Cult Survivor on May 21, 2013 at 11:30am 0 Comments

I posted the bulk of this on another thread, but wanted to add some context separately.

I finally confronted my faith and embraced the fact of my atheism late last August, 2012. Days after I revealed my "epiphany" to a few friends who knew me from another message board, my sister died from Lou Gehrig's Disease (which pissed her off because she hated catching a disease from someone she never f---ed).

THAT was my sister, understand? She was a beautiful, life-loving, potty-mouthed…

Death of a family member

Posted by Larry Taylor on May 20, 2013 at 8:15pm 7 Comments

OK. I am venting. My mother died two weeks ago. She was a “god fearing christian.” Before her death she refused all medical treatment. She wanted to be left alone. She even refused to speak with my brother who is a methodist minister. He is a pip, let me tell you! I suspect she did not believe, but a woman born in her time could not and did not state her actual beliefs. This is the opening salvo to all christians; FUCK YOU! I had so many people come and tell…

Unbelievable!!!!!!!!

This probably should not have shocked me as much as it did (especially since I am in Texas). I actually thought my coworkers were playing a joke on me because they know I am an atheist. Sadly, this was no joke. This actually happened.

I work in a psychiatric hospital. The doctors who admit patients are general MDs. (Psychiatrists see patients after admission) Yesterday evening we received several calls from irate parents. A new doctor who was doing admissions yesterday actually…

anti-atheist rant from an Orthodox Mormon part 2

What do you think of this,

Nathan Young,

No Jason Torpy it is you that should be banned for promoting atheism, a belief that has no foundation in reality and zero proof behind it.  The letter was a mockery of your atheist beliefs.  I request to the board here that they remove Jason for his unverifiable beliefs in atheism for which he has no proof other than his arrogance.  The letter was a mockery of atheism.  Atheism is stupid and it should be mocked and it…
