"You are correct, they did get mad at me for being an atheist and signing emails with Namaste. Since they blew up over nothing, I see no reason to have anything to do with them in the future.
Thanx for your input!"
"Thanks for your input. I don't go around telling people I am an atheist. I study Buddhism and it is possible to be atheist and Buddhist at the same time. And to me saying Namaste means that I salute the life force in them, whether it's…"
"My group is not specifically atheist, but it is in East Texas (Houston County) and I am having social occasions. It's on meetup.com and called The Southern Skeptic Tank. Please check it out.
I state that it is for the religiously and socially…"
I started a meetup group in my town, the SKeptic Tank. Eighty miles away, in Tyler, they have a pagan group and a drum circle. The drum circle organizer was going to let it lapse, and meetup said they needed a new organizer.Twice I had gone to tyler to their parties and spent money on a hotel and then went to the Unitarian fellowship on Sunday morning. So I stepped up and took over. I was offering them a place to hang out and drum and that they could spend the night at my house (I have a very…See More
"anybody tempted to pass out anti-tracts at Halloween?
I am sick of the people that invite me to their church and look STUNNED when I say I'm not interested. I have to drive 80 miles to find intelligent life at the nearest UU fellowship to hang…"
What's wrong with there being theists in the world? As long as they're not forcing you to join them, it's ok, right? ..Wrong.. This group is to share thoughts about the dangers of theism -- and through the discussion, to be armed to enlighten others.

"I moved to east Texas last winter. I have lived in either Houston or San Antonio all my life up to now, so it's really tough. I have to go to Tyler to find intelligent life. That's a mere 80 miles away."
"I'm in East Texas -- I call it East Shitholia b/c I am so far away from everything. I live in a town of 1200. Out on the bypass we have a Subway Sandwich Store and a Dollar General, and Harold's Exxon which has a cafe in it. I have to…"
Yes that's a watermelon. My freebie email died because I forgot to sign in for three weeks so you'll have to use perragrande (at) yahoo.com
I think the meetup group died too. Oh well. I'm busy turning my north yard into a garden spot. Got it fenced with a six foot privacy fence so Mrs. Buddha-Voodoo next door can't see it (She was in my house and actually said Buddha was da same as voodoo! I gave her a five minute speech about Shakyamuni that did no good!!! Also have some christo-nuts in an abandoned nursing home across the street too.
Perragrande, I’m not the official welcome wagon, but I do spend a lot of time on A|N, so I’ll take the liberty to welcome you and tell you a little about the site.
There are three ways to join in the conversations here. You can use the CHAT ROOM, or you can post a discussion in either the FORUM or in one of the GROUPS. The FORUM has different categories for posting discussions, and it is open to everyone here. To post a discussion or comment in a GROUP, you must first join that group.
There are over 500 groups so far, so just about any area of interest you can have will be represented. There are regional groups, groups for ex-Christians or ex-Muslims, and groups for pot smokers, bikers, singles, gamers, the LGBT community, parents, and pet lovers. Groups of common interest include: music, science, writing, politics, Dawkins, philosophy, morality, ethics, cinema, feminism, human rights, memetics, sexuality, history, race & culture, gardening, vegetarianism, books, propaganda, Cynicism, Objectivism, news, Doctor Who, free speech, the NFL, Carl Sagan, psychology, science fiction, horror films, Star Trek, and much more.
You are welcome to start your own group, but I might suggest that you first check to make sure that no such group for that particular interest already exists (for example, we already have four LGBT groups).
When commenting in a group, be sure to select FOLLOW at the bottom of the screen so that you’ll be informed of follow up comments to either the discussion, or to your comments. Also, the unspoken preference on A|N for responding to the comments of another member tend to be that you copy the text to which you are referring, paste it in your comment, italicize it, and then write your response below that. That way everyone knows to whom or what you are referring. You should also activate all links or URLs you post.
The best way to see what’s going on elsewhere on the site is to monitor the LATEST ACTIVITY feed on the right side of the screen. You’ll see new members announced and the conversations that are attracting the most attention.
Again, welcome aboard. I hope you enjoy it here, as I do.
