Why do we identify with the label atheist?I am as much an a-faerieist or an a-dragonist as an a-theist. Yes, I do know that atheist predates the word theist.I have said elsewhere that I consider…Continue

The Evil of Machines

Machines make our lives easier. That is not an evil, per se, but more of an opening statement of fact. I am alive thansk to modern medical technology, and I am certain I am not alone. I like progress. I like technology. This is not an anti-technology rant.It is a wake up call. When was the last time you were angry? Not just peeved, but truly, murderously angry? If you are never angry, then you are not human. All of us get angry. It may have been on the road, in a supermarket line, at a drive…See More

We're All Cocaine Addicts

I was reminded recently of the work of Dr. BF Skinner. I will explain for those who aren't familiar. I am sure most will understand what I mean. The work I am interested in is with rats, and modifying their behavior. The goal is to see if you can get a rat to push a lever. Rats do not usually push levers, after all. So, what is the first try? You tie its food to pushing the lever. Rat pushes lever and, in return, gets food. Seems to work. It gets the rat to push the lever, when it is hungry. Say…See More

Picked last. Again. I always get picked last. While it is sixth grade Physical Education kickball, it still seems unfair. I think my head was the largest part of me in sixth grade. I was thin. I was so thin that doctors had actually accused my mother of starving me. Couldn’t have been further from the truth. But I never seemed to gain an ounce, except to get taller. It stings to get picked last. At least in Scholastic bowl, I am one of the top performers. Why do I have to take this class that I… Continue

First Thanksgiving at my Mother In Law's place
