Family members praying or thinking of you, when you need their help not their thoughts

Films or stories debunking woo / Halloween

Looking for Halloween movies that debunk the woo and/or movies that take a rational viewpoint of Halloween. It can be for any age, but something to help kids and/or adults think critically about Halloween – and perhaps even woo in general. It's frustrating that even the Halloween films and specials geared towards very young children, which are movies that are not scary at all, seem to still buy into the woo that Halloween creatures are real, i.e. even if Casper is a friendly ghost, it still…See More

How to undo years of indoctrination and significant phobias?

Posted on September 22, 2010 at 11:29pm 5 Comments

I was indoctrinated with catholocism in my early years to teen years. I also was indoctrinated with supernatural / occult / paranormal beliefs from middle school through my twenties. The occult has scared the crap out of me since I was a child and my family would play the ouija board, tell me there were poltergeists in the house and think they saw ghosts. When I grew up those fears were reinforced by psychics, healers, etc. who told me I had demons haunting me because they said my family…

so, these are the books i've read and highly recommend:

~ " Atheism, the case against god"...... george smith

~ "Morals without religion".....margaret knight

~ "Atheist universe".... David Mills...... he's a member on this site; his book is awesome!

~ "The god deludion"..... richard dawkins

~ "god in not great"..... christopher hitchens

~ "The homemade atheist"...... Betty Brogaard...... fantastic

~ "Atheism explained"...... David ramsey steele

~ "The atheists bible"...... edited by joan konner..... not really a bible, but a fun book of quotes

~ " The quoteable atheist"...... jack huberman..... very good comebacks and witty ammunition for beleivers.

~ "The atheist's way"..... eric maisel

~ "god, the failed hypothesis"...... victor j. stenger

~ "Women without superstition- no gods, no masters"...... edited by annie laurie gaylor...... she is co-president, with her husband Dan Barker of FFRF. Thie book is absolutely wonderful. Hoever, i think you can only order it from them directly.... Freedom from religion foundation.... well worth it!!

~ "godless".... Dan Barker.....  fabulous

Then, there are other books with a non-religion subtext.... authors like: ray bradberry, ayn rand, aldous huxley, franz kafka,  albert camus, friedrich nietzsche..... the list goes on.....

Happy reading!!   :)
