Welcome. You are not alone. I'm here to listen. Rant, pose questions, whatever. I'd enjoy hearing more from you. What brought you to India? If you don't mind.

Adrian, That was a beautiful introduction, and I too am curious, like Amber Kost, if you are actually English or American? I look forward to your contributions, especially from a Swiss perspective. I'm curious about how atheists are getting…

Michelle replied to David Robinson's discussion 'Hello to everyone.'
David, I enjoyed your story. It took a lot of strength for you to over come the brain washing attempts made when you were a child. It kind of reminded me of the movie, "Jesus Saves". It's emotional abuse to tell a little kid they are…

Thank you all for the thoughtful response. My daughter has been doing very well. She had a two-phased brain surgery (132 electrodes were implanted in and around the motor-cortex so the neur team could locate seizure focus and map her brain.)----- in…

Sadly, it does seem true that atheists are the most hated (misunderstood) minority. However, it seems that atheists may have the lowest rate of divorce. http://divorce.lovetoknow.com/Divorce_Statistics_by_Religion Also, it seems that hardly any…

That's the best. What are they going to say? That it is reliable? Oh, right. They'll probably come back with such nonsense that, "it's God's will". LMAO

Michelle replied to c's discussion 'What do you say?'
If they are praying for me because of an illness or an unfortunate event, I say "thank you". If someone told me that they were praying for me, so I don't go to Hell.....then, I'd probably tell them to go to Hell! LOL :)

Thanks for starting the thread. I don't have any suggestions to add, as I think the suggestions that I would have posted, are already mentioned. A funny little story. At my husband's grandfather's funeral, the pastor went on and on…

Does anyone know of any politician that has had the gumption to come out and say they don't believe in God? Let me rephrase that. Does anyone know of any politician that has had the gumption to come out and say they don't believe in God,…

Michelle replied to EccentricSM's discussion 'Has anyone else been an atheist as long as they remember?'
I cannot ever remember having faith. I think that when I was very young, before I was teenager, I may have thought that God was all that was good in the world. Whatever that means. Like I said, I was very young. LOL By the time I was in my…

I think you're correct in the assumption that the prayers offered to you and your child were honestly kind, if not altogether misguided attempts at solace. At the same time I believe you were justified in graciously accepting their offering…

First let me say I hope your child recovers well and soon....if she hasn't already, and the unicorn answer was classic! I must use it some time. In this part of the world people offering to pray for you is almost de rigour. I just say…

Frustrated With Explaining Myself to the Delusional: "Praying for You".

Ahh, what a relief it is to be here!In my everyday life, for the most part, I keep my atheism to myself. Since we all know that, for the most part, voicing a non-belief in God can invite misunderstanding and hatred.I'm lucky enough that my husband, parents, and only sibling (brother) think that religion is a bunch of B.S..Recently, due to my daughter's severe illness (uncontrolled seizures), I received an outpouring of well-wishers praying for us. To those people, I always responded graciously…See More

About Me
I was lucky enough to grow up in a home where I was not inculcated with any religious dogma. I was however, sent to a Catholic school, briefly, because my parent's mistakenly thought that the academics would be better, not because they believed in the value of a religious education. Looking back, I applaud my mother for not drilling faith into me, but rather demanding that I give reasons for any of my claims. In her family, growing up, many of her aunts and uncles were Nuns and Priests.

Now, I am a married adult with two kids of my own. In most ways, I am just an average stay-at-home, Walmart shopping mom. Except, of coarse I don't believe in any God/gods or have any religious affiliation. Living in the Bible-Belt, being of the reality-based community; I have felt ostracized even though I am not outspoken. Mostly, wisely, I keep my mouth shut.
I only wish that religious people would keep their mouths shut and not assume that everyone shares their same world view.
