This is interesting. I have often wondered what a truly matriarchal society would look like- obviously they have existed in the past. The famous Amazons are just our most recent memory a very different way of organizing society. I don't think…

I reviewed the article "Japan-refutation-of-neoliberalism. And I thought of the concept  of "National Psychology." I do not think Western people can follow or mimic the unique system of Japan because the "national…

Laisse Faire Capitalism

Posted on May 3, 2009 at 4:42am 3 Comments

I would like to disabuse some of you of the idea that the decimation of the economy is the fault of free market Capitalism.

What you have been witnessing is not the result of free market capitalism but rather the purchase by those whose best interest is served to influence those that can choose not to enforce laws that are already in place.

Now maybe what's popping into your head about now is "Well there you go, less regulation has resulted in more corruption." In a… Continue

What's the big F'in deal?

Posted on April 12, 2009 at 10:48pm 7 Comments

Is it really a big fucking deal that I'm an Atheist and I sell Mary Kay? I mean all I'm trying to do is earn extra money in order to pay off my car and get Mary Kay half price (I've already been using MK for years).

Lately I've been kind of snickered at by my Atheist friends regarding me being part of such a blatantly Christian organization. They haven't forced me to pray and I haven't forced them to not pray around me.

Pffft, if you can't please everyone, you've got to… Continue

On Pets and People

Posted on September 13, 2008 at 11:29am 1 Comment

Like many Americans, I own pets. Yet I think I'm kind of a looney when it comes to my pets since I don't like the term "own'" for these little furry or scaley beings that share my home. Yeah, I paid money for them...But I think that term is a little insulting to the furry American that lives with me, rent free, in exchange for cuddles. I often find myself pondering our relationship and what it should be. Do any of you do this?

Before I get into my thought processes when pondering… Continue

Death Sentence

Posted on September 3, 2008 at 10:56pm 4 Comments

I just got done watching the movie "Death Sentence" with Kevin Bacon and a full on cast of people too desperate for money to pass up the script. Oh, and John Goodman too.

I have to start off by saying that I'm pretty sure Hollywood was experimenting here. "This time" the executive says "We'll be pairing Fox News watching 60+ city dwelling executives with a group of various 14 year olds. Some of these 14 year olds probably play too many FPS's, others have heard so many stupid myths… Continue

Greetings, Parallax! I'd like to invite you to a group where we talk about anything on our minds, Hang With Friends. :D As to suggestions for your profile style, I found it kind of hard to read dark grey on dark green, and virtually impossible to read the time of posting, so tiny and no brightness contrast with the background.

yes, you are SO right. The uniformed services tried not to call attention to this handsome American hero who tragically, was 1) killed accidentally by friendly fire - WAY hard enough for them to admit in the first place; and 2) admit im public that he was an atheist - which he outspokenly and plainly was - with the reinforcement/public backup of his family - and still lionize him in the prevalent religious right culture in which the military leadership currently, unfortunately, occupies.
whole thing makes me sick to my stomach. as if people who don't believe in imaginary beings don't love their country as much or are not as dedicated tothe mission for which we sign up to possibly give our lives for. Feh!!!>>

Hallo Ms Parallax! Thanx for commenting on me page. =) You are SO right. Pat Tillman was an inordinately gorgeous hunk of male; what makes him so righteous is his unabashed atheistm. He was killed by the ineptitude of the untrained in the US Army when they murdered him on accident by 'friendly fire,' then told his family he passed away a hero in combat fighting the bad guys. Well as you know the truth finally surfaced, embarassing his army brethren, but nopublic refute has ever occurred, much to the chagrin of those who knew him, worked with him, were related to him, befriended him, and loved him. More to follow, foks, hopefully they wont try to sweep this under the topsoil -

We've organized our group online with meetup.com. You can start a group, or at least join and list your interests, i.e. atheism, etc., and if someone starts a group the site will email you.

I don't see anything going on in Central Point or even Medford, but The Jefferson Center is in Ashland. In fact, they're having a potluck tomorrow. You can check them out at thejeffersoncenter.org.

If you can make the drive up to Portland for the worshop we'd love to have you. You can even stay in my guest room. Is that weird to offer my guest room to someone I've never met before? For some reason it doesn't feel weird at all. I'd love to meet you!

Our Secular Parenting Meetup is http://www.meetup.com/CFISPM/. We're sponsored by CFI, centerforinquiry.net/portland. A parent from Salem has literally just started Secular Parents of Salem, copying our format. Our hope is that we can form supportive communities for everyone that wants one. It's especially nice to have a group of friends that my kids can also speak with freely without any fears.

Have you checked to see if there are any groups in your area? You could start one so that you could find each other. I found mine with an Internet search. You might not be the only one searching for one in your area.

Keep in touch : )

Hi Parallax

Cental Point? I feel for you! My husband has been traveling down there about once a month for work, selling hospital supplies, for about 15 years now. Are there ANY othere atheist parents to hang out with down there?

I help lead the Secular Parenting Meetup here in the Portland area. I would love to invite you to a parenting workshop we non-religious are having up here in Portland. We are hosting Dale McGowan on the 18th, another Nexus member, and it would be worth the trip to come meet with a whole room full of other secular parents! Dale is presenting a workshop on his book, Parenting Beyond Belief. It's now one of my all-time favorite books and I think everyone should read it so I'm kind of evangelical about it now : )

You can find out more information on this event by going to centerforinquiry.net/portland. I would love to see you there!

Dani
