WAVES OF CHANGE ARE BLOWING WEEKLY IN AFRICA TOO

Posted on October 26, 2009 at 1:29am 0 Comments

Africa is perhaps the most miserable place the world has ever known. This fact is all but ignored by the media in western Countries. Most of the governments here, although calling themselves promoters of democracies, are ruthless dictatorships, ruled by greed and callous disregard for human life and dignity. They are supported by religious institutions that desire a share in the power, and they are supported by the "Western World" because they can still exploit them for profit. That's Africa,… Continue

WHAT DID REALLY JESUS SAY ABOUT HOMOSEXUALITY?

Posted on October 23, 2009 at 10:40am 0 Comments

The other day I was reading an article written by a gay expert on the Christian religion. He said that Jesus never said anything about homosexuality. Well, of course, that's completely untrue. Jesus thoroughly condemned homosexuality in Leviticus and in various books in the New Testament.

But just about any expert of the Christian religion would respond by saying: "No, no, you don't understand the Holy Bible. Jesus was not featured in the Old Testament." Well, okay, not by that name,… Continue

Ugandans could do better without their pastors

Posted on June 25, 2009 at 7:49am 0 Comments

To the old biblical Ten Commandments, our pastors could add this one: You shall not have carnal knowledge of a member of your own sex, or of a goat, or a cow or sheep in your flock, or from your neighbour’s flock, or any domestic or wild creature. It is an abomination.

In the first commandment, Moses (or his impersonators) wants the Abrahamic God to be the only supernatural being with power. So, as the edict says, you shall not worship other gods. It would be a bit like our… Continue

If you are truly democratic, protect gay people

Posted on May 11, 2009 at 4:07am 3 Comments

There is no halfway house to democracy. Either one accepts that all people have a voice in the running of their country or one accepts some degree of tyranny.

Demonising homosexuals is a barrier to self-determination. It protects those in power and forces the rest of us to do the dirty work of totalitarianism.

Denouncing gay people is like abusing women, discriminating against some regions, expelling Asians or beating up Catholics. Men often see women as objects or… Continue

Shs12m wasted praising Archbishop Henry Luke Orombi!!!!

Posted on May 7, 2009 at 1:08pm 0 Comments

His Grace, the right Rev Henry Luke Orombi, 7th Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, is no doubt a most impressive human being with many achievements.

But the four-page supplement, which appeared in the Sunday Vision of March 8 2009, showed much that is wrong with the reality of Christian values in Uganda and with Africa’s “big man” culture in general.

The supplement celebrated Orombi’s fifth anniversary as Archbishop. Five is hardly a big number, so the first question is;… Continue

Welcome to Atheist Nexus,
where the good, rational people of this world strive to make the world a better place. We challenge, criticise, redicule, question and debunk dogma and promote science and reason.
By the way, what happened to the great university in Uganda called Makerere University?
Is it still the great African seat of learning that it used to be?

At 2:08am on 6 April 2009, Micheal said… Doctor, Is there a possibility of working together to develop the Atheistic Values in Africa? Do you have some ideas? What would you like to see happening in Africa? I hope we can discuss.

Dear Micheal
Of course, I would like to have everyone in the world, Africa included, cleared of irrational god-belief.
Unfortunately at the moment, indoctrinated believers (some of them dangerous) greatly outnumber non-believers (all of them harmless).
It may be centuries, perhaps never, before the world is cleared of such stupid beliefs.
Hopes of success need to start with children, protecting these innocents from the dogmas of parents, schools and churches/mosques etc. Schools should opened and run by atheists, not by missionaries.
Children must be taught by the right teachers.

I wish you well, but I can do nothing to help because I am beyond retirement age---just too elderly.
It will be up to a new generation--a younger generation of atheist enthusiasts-- to start trying to save the world from this mass religious nonsense.

Good luck to you and all,

Terence Meaden

Got your message re: veganism. I would say that it's more important that the animals are treated ethically, than what you put on your plate. If there isn't an alternative, you could just try to make the best decisions about food available to you.

In most western nations, there is a lot of choice and the intensive factory farms are a real problem. Without making too many assumptions, I would guess that the animal products in your food are generally produced in small, fairly ethical farms, and that it would be really expensive if at all possible to find alternatives like soy products.

I am vegan for ethical reasons, but you have to be realistic. For example, if I was sick and the medicine was based on animal products, i would take it, because health is more important than ethics.

I would say that it's a case-by-case situation, and in your case, animal products are probably nowhere near as terribly produced.

Ethics is about the production of food, morals is about the consumption of food. Just make the best decisions you can and all will be fine.
