Michael OL replied to Dallas the Phallus's discussion Loneliness and Self-Pity in the group Atheist Singles
"I'd venture that the operative consideration is whether one feels guilty for being alone.  "Have I done some foolish or dastardly thing, that's caused me to lose companionship?  Or is it merely the case that my various…"

Michael OL replied to Joshua 'flobi' Hatfield's discussion Might as well start with my life story, right?
"Joshua, your experience is yet another data-point supporting the idea that non-belief stems from a deeper scholarship of religion itself.  Investigation within a religion - and not necessarily any intentional polemic against the religion - is…"

Michael OL replied to Angel Chasse's discussion What do you guys say when someone offers to pray for you?
"The implicit idea behind "prayer" is that if the individual remains without prayer, he remains a single unit.  But if the subject of prayer, then he's absorbed into the tribe.  His formerly solitary tribulations now become…"

Michael OL replied to Ruth Anthony-Gardner's discussion Innovation for green rural lighting in the group Hang With Friends

The sporadic acute pangs of loneliness

Living alone obviously implies a certain element of, well, being alone - albeit not necessarily loneliness.  Most times, one can immerse oneself in work, a hobby, a book, or some other distraction.  But from time to time, there are the overbearing bolts of loneliness, the sudden feeling almost akin to panic of having no recourse to the companionship or attention of others.  Thankfully this is rare.  But it does occur.  For example, I had such an episode when getting stuck in a snowstorm while…See More

Some Wiccans and their seeking approval from Christians

One of the many religions that I had once belonged to was Wicca.  It seems to me a lot of Wiccans but not all as well as some members of other Neo-Pagan groups seek the uncritical and unconditional acceptance from Christians and folk of other religions for their beliefs.  This is understandable in its own way but I think you'd be wasting your time with the fundamentalists adherents of any non-neopagan religion.  They don't want to accept or agree with anyone else's religious beliefs other than…See More
