Michael A. Wood Jr. had always been driven to serve, to do the things that others either lacked the courage or stomach for. At 17, Michael started that service with the United States Marine Corps, as an Assaultman, he served with 2nd FAST Co. out of Yorktown, VA and was honorably discharged as an (E-5) Sergeant four years later.
After serving his country abroad, Michael transitioned to serving his country at home, and joined the Baltimore Police Department. Starting off with foot patrol in the drug ridden streets of the Western District, Michael moved on to motorized patrol in the Southern District, and Northern District, then was promoted to Detective.
As a Detective with the Violent Crime Impact Division, Michael started off with plain clothes street rips of street level drug dealers, but quickly ended up in a Major Case Squad, where he helped tear down an entire gang that was involved in drug dealing, robberies, killings, and a myriad of other crimes. It did not take long for Michael to be promoted to Sergeant.
As a Sergeant, Michael led a squad of officers in one of the most violent areas in all of the United States, the Eastern District of Baltimore. When it comes to policing, Michael is most proud of the relationship that he had with that squad in the Eastern and the successes that they have gone on to have. Michael was injured in the line of duty and had no choice but to leave the streets behind, and began writing.
All of Michael’s experiences blend in and out of his writing to the point that only a handful of Police Officers will ever know which stories really happened and which are truly fiction.
While serving the city of Baltimore, Michael graduated with a Bachelors of Science from Kaplan University, Summa Cum Laude. Michael was on every President’s and Dean’s List, is a member of Alpha Phi Sigma, Alpha Beta Kappa, Golden Key Honor Societies, and is also recognized by BCCC has a 4.0GPA, Distinguished Scholar.
