Maruli Marulaki replied to Jo Jerome's discussion '"God gene:" Are we hardwired for superstition?' in the group Godless Anthrogeeks
I think that asking a question as 'Are WE hardwired...' making a generalization as if people were more equal than they may really be.   To me, it seems probable to speculate, that while people have a ceiling of the farthest of…

So anyway, one of my ongoing challenges as an adult Aspie has been that of successfully living independently, on my own. My stint with AIG was my longest streak of success with independent living, such as it was...my two years with TWU were fun…

So glad to have found this group on A|N;  I joined A|N in my pre-diagnosis days...have long been an atheist; Only recently realized I'm an adult male of 40 with Asperger's.

_Mozart & The Whale_ was also pretty good; based on a true story...a romantic drama about two Aspies...the real people the story is based upon got married, divorced, and then re-married. The Temple Grandin movie was great, and I agree, Clare…

About Me
http://www.facebook.com/MPWood?ref=profile

Neo-hippy, scifi nerd, tree-hugger. My car is a motorcycle, my house is a beater RV which enables me to quickly transport from adventure to adventure. Both vehicles are wired for Sirius which is almost always on a Classic Rock station, though occasionally metal, 80's pop or 80's new wave.

TV: Buffy and Farscape are the standards by which all others are measured. Mostly a scifi/fantasy fan but if the show has solid, believable characterization and few safety nets, I'll give it a go. What I'm liking currently: Glee, Ugly Betty, FlashForward, Heroes, Dollhouse, V. Reality TV will be the death of civilization.

Movies: Far too many DVDs for my own good. Again, scifi/fantasy with strong characters are usually a good bet. Psychological thrillers, anything that messes with my head. I'm a sucker for a good musical, good kids movies and good animated movies. Anymore, if Tim Burton is involved I'm there.

Books: Don't read as much as I'd like but when I do, once again it's often scifi/fantasy. Hey, I get enough of this world IRL. Escapism is just that! Anne Rice, Orson Scott Card. Taught myself to read on the Narnia series and no, I never even realized it was supposed to be a Christian allegory. I just liked the fantasy world and talking animals. Harry Potter rocks. Just started the Cirque Du Freak series. Oh and Stephen Goldin who's on this site ... you were right; your Jade Darcy is the coolest book heroine I've come across in a very long time! Thanks man for giving me a whole new daydream-fantasy world to lose my thoughts in!

Logic is my god. Science and math are its language.

Conversation with a Theist: God vs Zeus

Posted on May 31, 2010 at 9:00pm 8 Comments

Just now, sitting in a grocery store deli, woman reads my Magellan t-shirt ("The Church says the Earth is flat but I know it is round for I have seen the shadow on the moon, and I have more faith in a shadow than in the Church"). The woman strikes me as submissive, mousey, dependent.

Woman: "Well, I have faith in god."

Me: "And some…

Teabagger threatens to kidnap me. Or maybe word-salad me to death?

Posted on May 19, 2010 at 7:36pm 3 Comments

As most are aware, Arizona recently passed a demand-to-see-your-papers law: Anyone who 'looks' like they could be an illegal immigrant can be stopped on that suspicion alone and must provide proof of citizenship or legal residency. If you don't have such proof on you, even if you are a legal resident, you can be jailed up to 6 months just for not having the proper paperwork on your person.

One would think that the freedom-loving, privacy-loving, constitution-is-sacred,…

Teabagging 2M4M in Gaylord.

Posted on February 7, 2010 at 1:30am 2 Comments

First you have the whole concept of modern-day Tea Parties, whose only vague resemblance to the original is when someone gets the period costume right. If you know nothing else about the Boston Tea Party, every American from age 7 onwards can chant the phrase: "Taxation without representation."

Today's Tea Partiers A) Are protesting the whole concept of paying taxes period. Because taking from the community without contributing back is…

Earthquake politics: Where is the Christian/Republican outrage?

Posted on January 15, 2010 at 10:22pm 4 Comments

Posting this to my Facebook Page, where I actually do have a Conservative Christian friend or three:

"If moderate Muslims are so against what the extremists are doing, feel the extremists don't represent 'real Islam,' then where is their outrage? Why don't we hear from them? Why aren't they marching in the streets to protest the extremists and proclaim, 'They do not speak for us?'"

To which I ask: Where is the moderate… Continue

Hey! New use for Atheism! Drive away the Jesus-bums!

Posted on December 22, 2009 at 8:15pm 8 Comments

Ok, so "bum" is a rather un-PC term.

Especially since I myself am currently quasi-homeless. Although, living out of a tiny RV where ever I'm parked today, without electricity, I somehow still manage to keep reasonably clean (I've got hobo-bath down to a science) and not drunk 24/7.

Unlike the guy who has spent the last several minutes trying to sit next to me and bum money off of me. And I think pick me up.

My initial response to him? "Sorry man. I'm homeless… Continue

Hey, i know this is a bit forward since you don't know me, but I commented on your Pagan-atheist discussion and I just wondered if you'd be willing to share any of the other pagan-related practises you get up to as a fellow hybrid.

(When I first got into scientific-paganism I truly thought I was the only one, even though i scoured the web, and I kind of ran into a dead end because of it). I know it's personal to everybody, but your "force field to protect from my sister's idiocy" really sparked my interest again and inspired me to start creating "spells" for myself.

So, no pressure, but I just wondered if you'd be willing to mention any other things you came up with.

Cheers,

Rachael. ^_^
