- Is there any evidence that synesthesia is related to belief systems? Example: A person views an ink stain and is convinced that it is picture of Jesus Christ or the the Virgin Mary. Is that really much different from one viewing the number 1 and seeing the color red? Although synesthesia seems to run in families, belief systems do also. The difference, of course, is that belief systems are not directly related to genetics.
