Maggie Akdogan commented on Dave Salyers's group 'Ethical Culture'
I assume Ralph is making reference to "Possibly, the only people the world doesn't work for are those who believe the world must work their way." Taken out of context it, does seem an unrealistic view. Today's world doesn't…

Maggie Akdogan replied to Gold Guy's discussion 'Could you date a highly religious person?' in the group Atheist Singles
Religion isn't so different than the other mind numbing addictions we humans fall prey to (drugs, alcohol, video games). I'd prefer not to date a person with ANY of these vices, however of these four, non-fanatic theism would be my first…

About Me
Looking around to see what I can see

PS I'm not an atheist.
I'd like to think I'm a humanist.

I try to follow the following from Arthur Dobrin's Code of Ethics

Do no harm to the earth, she is your mother.
Being is more important than having.
Never promote yourself at another's expense.
Hold life sacred; treat it with reverence.
Allow each person the dignity of his or her labor.
Open your home to the wayfarer.
Always make restitutions to the ones you have harmed.
Never think less of yourself than you are.
Never think that you are more than another.

Greetings, Maggie! I notice you haven't been active at Atheist Nexus lately. <sigh> Sometimes it can seem a bit fragmented, with different groups for every interest. Please consider a group for socializing, where we talk about whatever's on our minds, Hang With Friends. :D You might feel more at home.

Well I don't do much social websites these days.

I came online today to invite another atheist friend.

Thanks for the welcome, Maggie; I'm happy to be here. I work at Davis Library, UNC's primary library; though an English major, I drifted into library work as a student and have been working various jobs in UNC's libraries for a while now.

What do you do? What brought you to our fair land of NC? Love the Humanist Code of Ethics; needless to say, it would be a big step forward if atheists and non-atheists alike could agree to those principles. Anyway, nice to meet you!

it depends to the people you are talking maggie.. I can say freely that im atheist but as you may know AKP now is the leading power in Turkey which makes people hesitate when they are asked for their beliefs.. Religion is mixed intensively with politics here.. I guess many people dont think or question so much their beliefs or most of them are confused.... Turkish people dont like to speak out freely (i guess you know that!!!!)

Good day, Maggie, fellow Tarheel atheist. Where are you located? If you are near the Axis of Evil (Raleigh-Durham-Franklinton), I'd like to invite you to join our Atheist Meetup Group and get involved. Go to this site:
http://atheists.meetup.com/80/

and read all about it.

Give me a shout back. I could use the atheist human contact.

Well I did have my chair set on it's highest vertical setting when I typed that. So that might have helped catch the idea.

Maybe I should move everything onto the roof?

G'day Maggie,

Yes that makes perfect theological sense.
Also shorter people would be more prone to being atheistic due to the increased distance.

So if you ever are commissioned with the task of designing a ecclesiastical bishop/pontiff ensure you include a very silly tall hat into your design. That will increase the head height and assume a greater propensity to catch theological waves.

Regards....
