Yes - I'm glad to see them backtracking from the initial video, but lets see if Comfort actually keeps this promise to be truly "fair"!

From the website Living Waters about the book: In November of 2009, we will celebrate the 150th anniversary of the publication of Charles Darwin's The Origin of Species, by giving away 100,000 copies of the book (304-pages) at 100 top U.S. universi…

Well, Skeptical Deb, UCSD is on the list of the 50 schools where they plan to distribute these special editions. So you could pick up a copy there, I'm sure! :-)

I was trying to find where the books were going to be distributed. I found that you can buy your own copy at: http://www.livingwaters.com/index.php?page=shop.product_details&category_id=7&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=393&option=com_virtuemart&Item

Sullied, of course, by a 50 page "introduction" full of shrill polemical drivel that will have nothing to do with the actual content of the book itself! To be given away - free, on the top 50 campuses in the country! May be the top 100 campuses... w…

The new discoveries about how our brain works are fascinating, indeed - and we are still in the early days of understanding! And people who reject science for whatever reason are closing themselves off from these marvels - that's what saddens me abo…

In my opinion, most of us are "wired" for belief. I think belief is a spandral (in the Stephen Jay Gould sense of the word) in that it is an "unintended consequence" of our evolved ability to imagine and predict the future. I think we need to serio…

We had a teacher in the department that was very religious but she took the view that Darwin expressed "God breathed life into one or a few creatures from which all creatures have so wonderously evolved." (Not sure that's exact but it's essential ri…

On losing an individual battle on the educational frontier of the evolution-creation culture war!

Its an odd coincidence that I got a message from Atheist Nexus today, causing me to log in after a long time. Not that I put much stock in coincidences, but I feel distinctly odd. Odd because the email came right after I got out of a meeting with my born-again devout christian graduate student who announced they were quitting the biology graduate program after a prolonged struggle, and much prayer, to try to reconcile faith with evolution!

I won't go into all the details of the back and forth d… Continue

It is true that many people take the path of religion to lead them out of destructive life styles. It is also true that people can do the same thing without a reliance on faith (you just don't hear about it as much). You sound like a very nice you…

I thought it was utterly brilliant that he said Abbot's offer of a billion dollars for Hobart hospital was immoral! His refusal of such a ridiculous bribe iis one of the first moral acts I've ever seen from a politician. Clearly the man will have a…

I've seen posts about the 50 commandments of jeebus put out by xtians that cite chapter and verse and you really don't need a commentary to go along with them. Boy it sure does kill the whole GOP/Tea Party platform.

From the article Tommy cited. "However, religious commentators have criticized Hawking's theorizing, saying he can never hope to explain what is essentially unexplainable." Well doesn't that kind of invalidate their own "god" theory then? ;p

Anybody else read it? I love the basic premise, and being an atheist means I can appreciate the mythology and not get bent out of shape about the multiple deities.

Wyoming is better than the southeast, from what I've seen. It's still a solid red state, though. My big point was that there are no cities. The closest it has are Cheyenne and Casper, each of which are around 50,000 people. The entire state barely…

I was in Panama City this past weekend, but I didn't have any free time. I was there for my brother-in-law's pinning. He was promoted to Major in the Air Force. The promotion ceremony was full of God and Jesus references, and the invocation was give…

I saw a video, or a blog post once that listed all the uncomfortable and illogical things that a person must do, according to Jesus' own words, in order to follow him. The list included hating your family, selling all your possessions, etc. I'm pret…
