"I didn't see the article you refer too, but I must say, I am always reluctant to speak for all atheists.  Seeing as how we do not have a unified theory of anything, it is tough to do.  However, the things that you point out that this…"

What Atheists can learn from religion?

Posted on February 26, 2012 at 11:04am 2 Comments

This in response to an opinion piece on CNN by what appears to be an atheist from the U.K. that thinks atheists should learn from religion.

I think I know what this fellow is trying to say, but his misunderstanding of atheists and secular society is so muddled, one can’t really tell what he means.

He thinks he speaks for atheists? That was the most irritating thing in this opinion piece. He doesn’t seem to know very many atheists and if he is one, he is an uneducated,…

The Jefferson Bible a Critique

Posted on February 24, 2012 at 9:16pm 2 Comments

I've actually read the Jefferson Bible in one evening a few weeks ago. Jesus is still the end times prophet preached about today, and in it he still threatens damnation to all those who do not believe in him. I could not disagree more with Jefferson who seemed to think Jesus was a great moral teacher. On page 38 you will find the popular quote, "...they shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth". Jefferson may have cut out the miracles, but he left…

What Atheist Believe

Posted on December 24, 2011 at 11:56am 4 Comments

This is another one my comment posts on the CNN Belief section. This was in response to the founder and executive director of the Fixed Point Foundation opinion piece about how those awful Atheists should be careful for what they wish for.

Being an activist atheist and after decades of hearing theists decry we want the destruction of religion and also claim it will be the end of civilization can wear one down. But, someone needs to stand up to these bullies and point out this is not…

Divide and Conquer

Posted on December 17, 2011 at 6:26pm 0 Comments

From Christopher's book "Arguably" I found a line by Adams that I had to blog about. In this book, Christopher writes about our American founding fathers and what they really believed or did not believe. In it there are examples of how it was seen advantageous to divide and conquer using sectarian strife. It still works today.

Here is a line from Adams about Jefferson's supporters with a twist.

"Let us have an Atheist or a Deist (as President) or anything rather than an…

Conspiracies

Posted on May 7, 2011 at 2:00pm 0 Comments

Being an atheist and apolitical I find people who believe in conspiracy theories troubled souls. Most of these people have one thing in common. They lead very isolated lives, mostly by choice. They cry wolf so often for every little thing , and they wonder why no one takes them seriously? They shout the sky is falling and point at every possible conspiracy as the cause.  They do not seem to realize everyone that is associated in some way to these claims are their neighbors. One good example…

Hi Lori! I hope you don't find me weird or a stalker or anything like that, but when I looked in the Montana Atheist group, I saw your name. It seemed familiar to me for some reason. I then realized that I spoke to you on the phone about a week ago. I am Troy the guy down in Bozeman who was tying to get you guys to speak to a group of Ukrainians. Do you remember me?

Thanks Lori. It's nice to know I am not the only Montanan who feels so strongly about NOT being religious.
