Christian storybooks should have "Christian" on the front cover. Twice now book presents have turned out to be propaganda in disguise. Grr.

Interesting thread; I just found the nexus this evening.   Ancient religious traditions have no ownership over any image. Is Egyptology interesting? Hell yeah! You could follow up this logic by pointing out that paleolithic cave paintings also…

An interesting comparison, Limber Lightfoot! But I'm with those who think it's probably just a coincidence. Remember the symbolism! I've always thought it looked like a sunrise as seen from orbit. In Chaucer’s day, the term…

Mine is Mr. Deity and the Light. Since most Christians do not buy into the Genesis story, they laugh without feeling offended.

Australia too, I found this.. The most recent and authoritative statement was issued by the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in August 2009. This document states clearly: “the RACP does not recommend that routine circumcision in…

Limber Lightfoot replied to Doug's discussion 'Church accused of hijacking ethics classes debate' in the group Aussie, Kiwi & South Pacific Atheists
I would bet good money that if there was a comparative religion class poised to be launched then the church would, in response, launch a mega letter-writing campaign insisting that atheism not be included as it is not a "religion".

It even gets worse because having scripture in school time means the kids talk about it in the playground afterwards. It's hard enough answering your child's questions about life and death without the luxury of being able to pretend there…

I think the episodes about the host, and the trinity would be the best, for an introduction to thew show at least.

Limber Lightfoot replied to Travis Brummett's discussion 'Are you still atheist if you believe in a afterlife?'
One of the hardest things about being an atheist is not being bale to bring yourself to assure your 5 year old, who asks "what happens to people when they die", that everyone goes to heaven and is happy and warm and watching over their…

About Me
I'm just a normal girl/scifi fantasy boho geek. I have a techy husband who seems to like me a lot and we agree on all the big issues of life and yes I hit the jackpot there, I know. We have a child who we both love a crazy lot and I have not a religious bone in my body. :-) No, Limber isn't my real name but it is solidly my virtual name. My real name is very rare and googleable so I don't use it online. I'm Limber Lightfoot when I occasionally go on SL.

Greetings, Limber Lightfoot! I notice you haven't been active at Atheist Nexus since April. <sigh> Sometimes it can seem a bit fragmented, with different groups for every interest. Please consider a group for socializing, where we talk about whatever's on our minds, hang With Friends. :D You might feel more at home.

You sound a touch like Kaylee ... and you know, there's no power in the 'verse could keep Kaylee from being cheerful." Inara may have been sophisticated and ravishingly beautiful ... but I'd jump for Kaylee in a hot second!

Well, I'm not sure if I can call myself a 'true' Dr. Who fan yet, I almost never watch TV now... I'll get the whole lot at one point, but all 756 (and counting) episodes would be a hell of a lot, to either download or buy :P

I have a chronic dislike of television (and other) advertising, which has developed to the point where the flatscreen TV provided with this apartment I'm living in (including some basic cable channels) is unplugged and lying under my bed; unless I can watch without interruptions, and choose whether or not to wait between episodes, I just prefer to do without O.o

On a side note, that's the first time I've seen the word "irascibility" used in a wikipedia article (on one of the doctors) :P

Have you watched the whole lot yourself, or just the most recent incarnations? I don't think I could quite stand watching Sci-Fi from the 60's :D Reading? Yes! Watching? Hmmm difficult to not notice the datedness ;)

Enough of my blather, time to go make yummy savoury crepes :)

See you around the site!
