About Me
I'm an activist in the atheist community, and have co-founded a student atheist organization at Virginia Commonwealth University called the United Secular Alliance (affiliated with Atheist Alliance International and Secular Student Alliance).

Our biggest accomplishment to date is to sponsor a debate between Christopher Hitchens and Frank Turek which can be viewed online at http://www.vimeo.com/1863517 or just simply scroll down and hit play.

I got married to my lovely wife Rebecca at a public secular ceremony during the 2008 Atheist Alliance International annual conference on the Queen Mary in Long Beach California by Captain Roy Sorge and Margaret Downey.

I have a Masters in Biology, my thesis title was EBL-1 a Putative Erythrocyte Binding Ligand of Plasmodium falciparum. (Basically, I looked at a protein that is thought to be responsible for aiding the malaria parasite in red blood cell entry)

I am an RBP or a Registered Biosafety Professional through the American Biological Safety Association (ABSA) and I currently work as a biosafety officer.

I'm a metal head, I love herpetology, ecology, molecular biology, and fly fishing.

I was one of the original supporters of the Rational Response Squad and have been a high level mod there for a long time, although, I have not posted on there for quite sometime and I think I lost admin rights.

Either way if you wanna know more...as the saying goes, hit me up!!

States the following: "Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see"

Imagine if we did science this way. Imagine a doctor with no skill telling you this quote as you're going under for brain surgery.

.... I think there is a gray area between atheism and deism where the two arguments share maybe more than what you think....I consider myself an atheist that is 99% convinced that there is no supernatural being that explains what we cant ...Im 100% convinced that there is no personal god that groups claim to know the likes and dislikes of....

and to clarify Turek's position more....a theist only knows a personal god...meaning that every theist’s interpretation is unique.....the different denominations in each of the three branches of monotheism provide support enough for this claim

Yep....Hitchens is awesome.....Turek opens with religion's usual argument by quoting laws of the universe and then saying that thier god did it....I have respect for a deist...I have no respect for theist.....theology.....the study of stories....too funny

Hey man. thanks for the add. Are you a fan of the podcast or website? BTW, nice job setting up the Hitchens debate. I love that man.

I agree we do need to stand up for our rights. The Christians have no problem standing up for themselves! Especially since I am still in the very angry-at-christianity phase, I get really heated listening to them preach their hypocrisy and blast the president. I got really involved in politics with this last election bc there was no way in hell Sarah Palin was making it to the white house. That was when I really started to think I have to do something about this...I am lucky to have an atheist husband who is helping through my biology degree. He is currently working on his masters in bio. Together we plan to do really big things.

Thank you. So I can see you are a pretty active atheist and I can really appreciate that. So were you raised that way or did you leave a religion too?

That's awesome, I am on facebook quite often myself.

I will check out that link. Once I made my decision to leave my religion behind, I knew it was the right one. I just had a lot of questions but talking to other atheists is helping me answer those questions. My family doesn't know about my decision, and I don't know how or when I will tell them. But when I first met my now husband, he was going through the same things I was and he made the decision to deconvert before I did, so I am very lucky to have him by my side. And all the awesome people like you on this site!

Well, I was raised southern baptist but for the last 4 or 5 years I quit going to church and just considered myself a really bad Christian. It was only within the last year that I admitted to myself that I am an atheist. But it's the best decision I ever made!

You're welcome! I always like meeting new people too. I'm somewhat of a new atheist and I am very encouraged to meet other people who think like me.
