As a parent of two young boys, I constantly strive to teach them to be open-minded, independent thinkers. (Which, by the way, proves to be more difficult than I expected ... especially since we are mostly surrounded by the exact opposite!)
I was raised very Southern Baptist but began questioning religion in college. It took quite a few years to admit my non-theist views to my family and friends but have finally become confident in myself enough to know that my beliefs are my own and nothing to be ashamed of. As far as my current "spirituality" (a term I use loosely), I frequently meditate and practice self-awareness but do not rely on any supernatural "forces" to give guidance or deflect responsibility for my own choices. Put whatever labels you want on me, as they have no meaning.
