God made me an atheist. Who are you to question his wisdom?

"Remember, there is a big difference between kneeling down and bending over."
-Frank Zappa

"I contend that we are both atheists. I just believe in one fewer god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours."

A society without religion is like a crazed psychopath without a loaded .45.

Two hands working do more than a thousand clasped in prayer.

Last time we mixed religion and government, people were burned at the stake.

Nothing in life is to be feared- It is only to be understood.

Love is blind

Therefore, Ray Charles is God.

If you ask the wrong questions you get answers like "42" or "God".

Traveller: God has been mighty good to your fields, Mr. Farmer.
Farmer: You should have seen how he treated them when I wasn't around.

Archeologists near Mount Sinai have discovered what is believed to be a missing page from the Bible and it is believed to read "To my darling Candy. All characters portrayed within this book are ficticious and any resemblance to persons living or dead is purely coincidental."

Philosophy is questions that may never be answered.
Religion is answers that may never be questioned.

Fundamentalism means never having to say "I'm wrong."

On Ottawa the Christians put up an "abortion stills a beating heart" poster outside the local abortion clinic. Someone wrote over it. "A Christian with a gun stills a beating heart."

If God doesn't like the way I live, let him tell me, not you.

If the Bible is mistaken in telling us where we came from, how can we trust it to tell us where we're going?

I distrust those people who know so well what God wants them to do because I notice it always coincides with their own desires.

"Nothing is more humbling then to look with a strong magnifying glass at an insect so tiny that the naked eye sees only the barest speck and to discover that nevertheless it is sculpted and articulated and striped with the same care and imagination as a zebra. Apparently it does not occur to nature whether or not a creature is within our range of vision, and the suspicion arises that even the zebra was not designed for our benefit."

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle. Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me.

Prophecy

Posted on November 26, 2008 at 7:28pm 0 Comments

Someone please tell me what good are future predictions when you can only discover them in hindsight? With all these Nostradamus and bible predictions and so on, only intense analysis can seem to match up the predictions with the events they supposedly predicted. What good is it, even if it was true? Take those things and tell people what will happen and prevent some harm, and then we can talk. But until then, I hope people put those crazy notions aside because, even if they were somehow true… Continue

Aliens and the History Channel

Posted on November 19, 2008 at 10:45pm 7 Comments

Why is it that everytime I put on the History Channel it's always a show about aliens? Didn't even know there were so many angles of looking at UFOs. Government conspiracies, crop circes, Area 51, implants, hypnotherpy, USOs (unidentified swimming objects...really), and aliens through history, among others. Whether it's before work, before school, or when I get home it's always aliens. Is this just alien season or what? It's interesting in it's own way, but even if I believed in it all it would… Continue

Why I think this community is so great

Posted on September 18, 2008 at 12:55am 2 Comments

I've been an atheist pretty much since about age 12, maybe sooner. I am now 22. In all those years, through middle school, high school, and college, I have never met anyone who I know is a real atheist. Back in high school there were some wannabe rebel "fuck god" kinda people but that's about it. I have no atheist friends. Thankfully my parents and friends aren't all that religious. The extent of their religiousness is the occassional "things happen for a reason", "they'll get what they… Continue

How I Became an Atheist

Posted on September 18, 2008 at 12:04am 1 Comment

Well my family was never very religious. We went to church when me and my brother were little but stopped. No crosses, bibles, no talk of God, nada. I had to ask my mom at about age 7 what religion I was and she thought for a moment and I was baptized Catholic. Then I asked what she was and wasn't too specific, muttered something about protestant or something, I don't even know now.

Well when I was in middle school I was already putting the pieces together. I saw how religion just seemed… Continue

hey there. thanks for stopping by and commenting. I know what you mean about meeting other non-theist in our town. Although I've been fortunate enough to meet some at UTSA. Well dont worry we are out there and doing our part. I like some of the recommended podcast you gave and I have to admit I've never really been into podcasts so I might have to take a second look on how they work. Well be safe for now ok :)

Death of a family member

Posted by Larry Taylor on May 20, 2013 at 8:15pm 5 Comments

OK. I am venting. My mother died two weeks ago. She was a “god fearing christian.” Before her death she refused all medical treatment. She wanted to be left alone. She even refused to speak with my brother who is a methodist minister. He is a pip, let me tell you! I suspect she did not believe, but a woman born in her time could not and did not state her actual beliefs. This is the opening salvo to all christians; FUCK YOU! I had so many people come and tell…

Unbelievable!!!!!!!!

Posted by Christy Stewart on May 20, 2013 at 2:17pm 6 Comments

This probably should not have shocked me as much as it did (especially since I am in Texas). I actually thought my coworkers were playing a joke on me because they know I am an atheist. Sadly, this was no joke. This actually happened.

I work in a psychiatric hospital. The doctors who admit patients are general MDs. (Psychiatrists see patients after admission) Yesterday evening we received several calls from irate parents. A new doctor who was doing admissions yesterday actually…

anti-atheist rant from an Orthodox Mormon part 2

Posted by Debra Stevenson on May 20, 2013 at 1:09pm 1 Comment

What do you think of this,

Nathan Young,

No Jason Torpy it is you that should be banned for promoting atheism, a belief that has no foundation in reality and zero proof behind it.  The letter was a mockery of your atheist beliefs.  I request to the board here that they remove Jason for his unverifiable beliefs in atheism for which he has no proof other than his arrogance.  The letter was a mockery of atheism.  Atheism is stupid and it should be mocked and it…

Anti-atheist post from an Orthdox Mormon

What do you think of this Facebook comment?

Nathan Young to Jason Torpy,

for once you and I can agree on something.  We should disrespect beliefs that are untenable such as the belief that there is no God.  Indeed for me to respect you Jason, I cannot respect your belief in non-belief in atheism.  Your atheism comes across as arrogrance, smugness, and self righteous.  Indeed after reading "An Open Letter to My Religious Friends" I penned one…
