- 18, cognitive psychology and linguistics major at Northeastern University. Studying to be an animal cognition scientist working with nonhuman animals and their capacities for intelligence, emotion, and consciousness. I have been a non-theist all my life, and so have many other members of my family. My heroes are: Dr. Irene Pepperberg, Jane Goodall, Sue Savage-Rumbaugh, Donald Griffin, and many of the other brave, intrepid animal cognition researchers who set out in their field with a bold aim and the will to carry out their work even in the face of harsh criticism from their esteemed peers. Sir David Attenborough is also on the list, if only because he made me fall in love with animals and the natural sciences.
