Macie Land said… That is great news and I am very excited about it.
Since there are not that many of us in NF, I think it would be great if you could have a link that lists atheists and atheist friendly busnesses and local and state political campains. It could generate lots of support for them. Just a thought.
Have a great day!
Matthew
My daughter is also atheist. My ex on the other hand is not, and one of the main reasons she left. Its ok, I think we are both better off. I am just glad my daughter takes after me.
I have a solid group of about 6 atheist that get together every weekend and grill out. We do it every Sunday. Kinda like church, except not retarded. Its good to be around people that have the same views. I don't think its as much about reasurance as it is learning from other peoples views and experiences.
So, do you have the North Florida Athiest Alliance website running yet??
Oh my god, that was a great story. What led him to believe your animals where possesed?? Did he just have a vibe or a devine intervention?
I was around 10 when I changed from spiritual Agnostic to complete Atheist. I did not openly come out until I was an adult, but it was no big suprize to my family. My ministers growing up in the Church of God hated fielding my questions, and would avoid talking to me at all cost. My brother is a Christian, and he is my best friend. I talk to him on the phone at least 3 times a week, but we never talk about religion. His wife is very religious, and her dad is a minister. I think it is just easier for him to go with it right now.
Here is my story: I am in the Navy and recently moved to Japan. I was giong through a hard time when I first got to Japan because my 16 marrige had just ended a few months earlier. I was dealing with a lot of depression, and my boss wanted me, or sort of directed me to go see the Navy Chaplian. We talked about my depression for a few minutes, but then the conversation shifted to my beliefs. I told him that I was Atheist. He asked me why I held that view, so I took about 45 minutes to tell him. We sat in his office for about 4 hours after that debating. We covered most of the common theist v/s Atheist debating subjects, inclueding Pascal's wager.
That was about 6 months ago. We have frequently met ever since to share ideas. He just came out last week as an Atheist and is resigning his commission. I am not saying that I am the cause of it, but I would like to think that I had a part in helping him figure these things out. Its by in large my greatest feat as a free thinker, not that this is all a contest.
I am glad you wrote back. I am moving back to Florida soon, and its really good to know there are people with simular views around. 20 years ago, when I left home, there were none to be seen. Very nice to meet you.
