"Loving, caring, kind, otherwise rational people can totally lose it over religion and become unpredictable. Spirituality generates very primitive, powerful emotions.  Love, hate, rage.  It involves psychology from very early in life. "

"Very interesting. A lot of the same thoughts babe give through my mind too. There was one particular event in my life- a discussion with my wife about religion. I come from a Southern Baptist extended family and my parents were fairly conservative…"

"I heard Catholic priests say they celebrated a fellow priest's death. They said a deceased priest had gone to where all his life he'd wanted to go. I ask, "Where were their deceased pedophiles?" "

"I agree, Kathleen; those feel-good chemicals do flow. However, I heard that churches schedule the most emotional music right before the collection! "

About Me:
I recently lost a loved one to a four year battle with cancer. After talking with her on her death bed, she told me, "I'm not ready to go yet." However, she passed away this morning despite her will to live. Although I was raised Catholic, the teachings of the church never resonated with me. Instead, I found agnosticism much more plausible, and it worked for me - until now. I've come to the conclusion that I would be crazy to believe in a god who would allow such tragedies to happen or god who permits such incomprehensible depths of pain. All the prayers in the world, and all for nothing. The god I once believed in was nothing more than wishful thinking.
Fortunately I found this site, and I am hoping to find support for those who are grieving - without the preachy religious nonsense.
