Communicating to Christians
If you've read my info section, you'll know that I have to be careful about content I put on Facebook. I go to a bible college and it wouldn't be enough to delete all the staff (I already had when they asked me to take my theology off of it) - I have to be careful with what I say around most of my friends (apparently Facebook friends of mine reported my 'heretical beliefs' to the dean of students). It should go without saying that I know all about religious manipulation.I find it very difficult…See More

- I am an atheist, but perhaps not in the way you are. I don't believe in the absurd, mathematically impossible notions of divinity that modern Christianity pushes; in fact, I am 'against' them. However, my experience of love/goodness/kindness convinces me of a spirituality that materialism denies (and my experience is that atheists tend to be materialists). I don't believe that there is a being 'somewhere out there' that chooses whether or not to interact in human affairs, but neither do I believe in the 'inspiration of science' as if the universe can only follow the rules we have discovered (there is something pathetically arrogant about this attitude in atheists). I believe, for example, that events some would consider spectacular happened during the lifetime of Jesus, since I cannot account for the growth of Christianity unless he did in fact raise from the dead (I cannot be bothered with atheists who argue that it was all a big conspiracy and people got themselves martyred for something they knew to be a lie). But neither do I think a person being raised from the dead is all that big a deal. I would have to be pretty full of myself to discredit all such occurrences as magic tricks or fairy tales. But the real point is... I don't believe in the God Christianity has since created. In fact, if 'he' does exist, and if I got into 'Heaven' while others didn't (somehow), I would reject him.
If you are disgusted by the above, at least don't attack me for not being a nontheist in the way you are. I don't believe in what you don't believe in, and there aren't any rules as to what we should believe instead. I have had my share of rejection from my bible college (In fact, I have been ordered to take my theological content off of Facebook and they're not allowing me to attend the graduation ceremony because I don't go to chapel).
