This is no surprise--the fauna of the Burgess Shales is much too complex to have arisen recently. I seem to have read of some indirect evidence even earlier than 565 million years BP, but my memory isn't what it once was--does anyone recall…
We debate origins of the Universe, life, Earth, humans, religion, atheism, using common sense, evolution, cosmology, geology, archaeology, and other sciences, to repel biblical creationism and other religious beliefs.
I went to Catholic school, but believed for fear of Hell rather than inclination to faith. Last straw was being told I couldn't believe in evolution--tried not to for a couple of months, then got brave and tore free.
Plans to become biologist foundered on dislike of math, but keep up in field as layman. Especially interested in evolutionary relationships and taxonomy.
Also interested in languages. Speak good German and adequate French, but have never travelled abroad.
Great interest in history and origins of things generally.
Retired in 2005 after 37 years as high school English teacher.
Read whodunits in evening for relaxation, and mainly history at other times.

Yes John. It's terrible what some catholic priests or ministers do or did--threatening vulnerable children and adults with the fictions of hell. I wonder whether you might devise and initiate a discussion point around this--on the orgins and maintenace of a fictional hell? How far do other religions go in frightening the believers?
Hi to John Stanley in California. Welcome to this great meeting place with its rational people who recognise religion for the superstition and fraud that it is --- and that God and gods are nothing but fictions inside people's heads.
