Funny Message Outside A Church Today

I was driving along this afternoon when I noticed this large sign next to a church that read:



"WE'RE ALL A MESS. THAT'S WHY WE HAVE A MESS-IAH!!!"



It was too funny! I'd thought I share it with you. It's so nice and comforting to know that there's a Messiah who is really helping people out of their messes. That includes all the thousands of people in the jobless mess, mortgage mess, bankruptcy mess, starvation mess, etc...

Those pictures are incredible right! They're even more amazing to me since I only learned about the 8 (9 back in my day!) planets and our sun. Even that "learning" just consisted of the usual My Very Educated Mother... mnemonic. Dropping religion left me with a void. To think you know the origin of the universe and find out you couldn't be more wrong is pretty humbling, lol. Now I'm just soaking up all of the truth I ignored before. 

 

I see you're from Salem. All I know of the place is a small bit of the witch trials. Is it still very steeped in religion?

lol I was a little worried that the quiz would be a challenge. I got 9 out of 10!!! I wish I had the same luck with skywatching. Very cloudy here tonight. Getting rid of some of the light pollution would help too. 

 

I am going to check around for the programs you and Matt mentioned. Or insomnia will kick in and I will watch it in the next few minutes. I wasn't even aware that the Space Station was visible O.O Mindblower. You seem to be pretty deep in Astronomy. How long have you been stargazing? As always thanks for the info, esp. since space is on my Jeopardy study list.

I stumbled upon a pair of binoculars just the other day so if it's not too cloudy tonight, I will be skywatching aka getting my Carl Sagan on. I've never seen Jupiter and didn't even know that it was visible to the naked eye. I've been planning a trip to meet with the local Astronomy society but local is a pretty far trip. I'm guessing they try to pick the best spots for observing. Thanks again for another great suggestion. I love meeting so many people with esoteric hobbies.

I'm not nearly as avid about astronomy as I'd like to be. It's a field that I wish I had become immersed in many years ago. Little by little I'm learning about the universe and our connection to it. It's so much more beautiful, complicated, and grand than I could have ever imagined. Like your profile says, truth is stranger than fiction. :)

OK. I am venting. My mother died two weeks ago. She was a “god fearing christian.” Before her death she refused all medical treatment. She wanted to be left alone. This probably should not have shocked me as much as it did (especially since I am in Texas). I actually thought my coworkers were playing a joke on me because they know I am an atheist. Sadly, this was no joke. This actually happened.
