On the whole God/Allah thing, it really bugs me that these nitwits don't realize that they're fighting each other over the same god. I've been thinking of designing a shirt that reads: Abraham = Avraham = Ibrahim Get over it!

As a member of a group that put up the billboard, I'm upset by the vandalism but not at all surprised. The sign has now been restored but we're anticipating the next round of vandalism. Electronic billboards are nice but this is what we…

With an enormous tip of the hat to Heywood Banks, writer and performer of the original Big Butter Jesus song, I submit my sequel to it (sung to the same tune):Big Butter JesusGot hit by lightningWith a roar of thunderThat was downright frightening.Seem like the AlmightyBurned the sucker to the groundWhen the sun rose next dayOnly ashes could be found.Chorus:Big Butter JesusFireball JesusThunderstruck JesusUngrounded JesusPyrotechnic JesusInflammable JesusIronic JesusIncendiary LordWith his eyes…See More

Jesus loves me? How absurd! Don't believe a single word! Purge religion from your brain, Nothing's lost but much is gained. No god above me, No god below me, No god around me, My reason tells me so.

But debating his existence makes debating his divinity a moot point. It's the base that their whole house of cards is built upon. Pull that card and the rest comes tumbling down. They're not even left with, "Well, even if you…

Yes, we'll be there! (We live in town so it's relatively handy.) In fact, the American Freethought podcast will record a live show at 11:30AM Saturday as part of the Skeptics track. Hope to see you there! John

Outstanding response, Rosemary. One thing that I often tell the anti-evolution folks is that even if by some outside chance they manage to completely disprove every discovery made by evolutionary scientists, it doesn't give their argument any…

I'm amazed by the contradiction here... all living things on Earth were created in the first six days yet weeds didn't exist yet. These people are insane.

Many atheists start as believers in some kind of religious doctrine but eventually come out of it. I'm one of those. I was raised by my devout grandmother and my abusive, alcoholic mother. Grandma told me that if my faith was deep enough, prayer would see me through any crisis. Greetings, Jim! I notice you haven't been active at Atheist Nexus since Aug. <sigh> Sometimes it can seem a bit fragmented, with different groups for every interest. Please consider a group for socializing, where we talk about whatever's on our minds,Hang With Friends . :D You might feel more at home.

Jim, please consider joining my new group HERCULANEUM: A PLACE FOR MEN. Herculaneum is a group where men can discuss and explore the ideas, goals, demands, ethics, sexuality, and nature of manhood and masculinity. It is a place where we are free to be ourselves, and discuss the issues most important to our identities as men.

I have already started two discussions to get us going: How do we define manhood in the 21st century? and Rites of Passage: A Lost Ritual?.

This is a private group, and discussions can be viewed by members only. Membership is open to men only. Please check it out.

An Atheist Ham club sounds like a good idea! I haven't been on the bands for an awful long time - miss it sometimes.

Thanks for the friend add. I haven't seen Dean or Kris in way too many years. I'm glad the planetarium gig is working out well for you. You might want to introduce yourself to Richard Valcourt in the sff group. He does volunteer work at the visitor center at Mauna Kea.
