I found this in drafts, and figured I might as well post it! It's old... But I had to finish up my coming out story. Which is really more of a... becoming an atheist story...
So this last fall I started college. Now I'm living alone 200 miles from home, but still very much in Utah. At first, it was great. I loved being by myself, having freedom, the weather was much better, school went pretty well, and the people seemed a lot nicer-- and less fake, particularly. …

Title says it all. I posted before on my sexual life story... I wish I could say that things have improved since then.
Nope.
I don't think, when I wrote my first post, that I had experienced my first kiss. But I have now. And saw my first naked man in the same week. Kissing was cute, but not very sexual. Because I never feel truly sexual. The second guy I kissed, and likely my first time really "making out" is not a particularly good memory. I think the guy really is…

Proposition 8 was never something easy for me to handle. I kept the old newspapers, got in more than one fight, and went to my first protest over it. I live in the heart of it. I live with the Mormons. I live with the sick, twisted, inhuman bastards who threw away millions of dollars to pass it. And to this day hearing about it makes my heart want to throw up.
I don't understand. I was well over this kind of ignorance coming out of elementary school. Yet even being raised in this…

Chris G said… Someone sent me the following about Southern Utah,
There is a Unitarian Fellowship there and a Dixie Reason Inquiry & Freethought college student group! There may be other reasonable/non-religious groups in the Cedar area that we haven't heard about yet"

Hi.
Chris G said… AA is American Atheists.
I've heard that colleges don't set up core curriculums very well anymore causing students to take random classes that don't amount to marketable skills. I think it's important to take broad based education that includes art, history, science, anthropology, and etc. It's important to take classes that will further your employability.
The book What Color Is Your Parachute? may help you define your interests and help you decide which courses would be the most beneficial.
Chris G said… That's great news on several accounts. You're back at school (campus right?) and meeting secularists/atheists. What school are you going to and what classes are you taking?
Are you trying to get chartered with AA?
Chris G said… When I lived in NE Oregon it helped to meet other atheists in person. You should try to do that at your nearest friendly atheist meeting.
Chris G said… The Salt Lake City still has atheist meetings. You should attend one.
