Shooting right past you, tomorrow. I have an early morning appointment on the far side of Winston-Salem, and then I'm right back to the Triangle for some other stuff, in the afternoon. I never get to hang around and check out the place.

Had my first stop in Greensboro last week, by the way.  Much nicer place than Winston-Salem.

Meh, yeah, that's kind of messed up.  Although, we had several roving preachers on the NC State campus, as well.  I don't know how much of a response they thought they were going to get, at a university known for its engineering schools.

I guess they're trying to mitigate the effect they see happening at America's secular universities.  They're quite correct in that they see higher education (at a non-fundamentalist university) as a threat to religiosity.  There's a very high correlation there.

It's like Ray Comfort's lunatics that he sends out to universities around the country, handing out copies of his edited and self-prefaced version of Darwin's 'On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection' to everyone who will take one.  I got a copy at Duke, after watching a Dawkins presentation, for his 'Greatest Show on Earth' book tour.

 

Meh, I wish I had more run-ins with Bible-thumpers, myself.  I have a great deal of fun with them, since I know the Bible better than lots of them do.

I'd probably go to some of those Christianity gatherings, if they're any sort of Bible study and not just mindless worship services.  I'd bring along a few of Bart D. Ehrman's books ... but then I'm a wise-ass.

I've never really stopped off there, but I had had impressions from several random little things.  I mean, UNCG has always been looked at as one of the most liberal colleges in the UNC system, hasn't it?  And Wake Forest University, in Winston-Salem, is a freaking Bible college, isn't it?

I'd always heard that Winston-Salem is the more sketchy, lower end of the Triad, by people living there.  I guess I sort of equated that with greater religiosity.  Is Greensboro packed with liberal theists or something?  How the heck does it make number two on the list of the whole country, over the televangelist Meccas like Tulsa, Oklahoma?

Hmm, live and learn.

 

I'll have to see about stopping off for a while sometime.  I just always seem to end up with the Winston-Salem runs in the morning, then have to get back to the office for something else, in the afternoon.

I do work-from-home tech support for BCBSNC, so the schedule is a bit erratic.  Someone's computer breaks critically, to the point that it needs replacing, and off I go.  I spend almost no time at HQ, since we have another guy who sits at the computer all day, taking care of things that can be fixed remotely.

Wait, what?  How is Greensboro anywhere near the most religious city in the country?  Heck, just looking at North Carolina, I'd have figured Winston-Salem and Smithfield-Selma would top it easily.

 

If you want to talk smaller towns, I was in Mt. Airy (actually, just on the outskirts) on Thursday.  That seems like a likely candidate for the honor, too, judging by my brief stop-off for gas.

Ah, greetings.  Welcome to the group.  I blow through the Triad all the time, with my work.  Strangely, I've never actually stopped the car in Greensboro, though.  I'm always on to either Winston-Salem, Charlotte, Mt. Airy, or something along those lines.  I don't think we have any clients in Greensboro.
