A review of Polly! By Stephen Goldin

Posted on March 27, 2009 at 10:03am 0 Comments

How many of us have ever known a Polly Perfect? Or, more to the point, how many of us have desperately wished it so while insisting we did? Polly is beautiful, intelligent, rich and sweet to terrible in the blink of an eye – all qualities that can quickly get a fellow into trouble if he fails to keep his feet under him. Who hasn't tread willingly into that heady fog with their organs in disarray? But the mystery is more than half the fun, so it goes that once our minds are set we are doomed -be… Continue

Unfounded beliefs

http://www.timesdaily.com/article/20081212/ARTICLES/812120351

Recently, a reader wrote about their struggles with Christianity. I have been through similar struggles myself, though I have reached a conclusion contrary to that of the former contributor. As I grew older I began to see the Old Testament more as a justification for atrocity than an account chronicling the chosen people of God. Seeking solace in the New Testament left me peering into the heart of my religion, only to find… Continue

A bit more poetry

Posted on September 19, 2008 at 12:30pm 0 Comments

My last one was a little sappy, so i thought I'd go with something different. Written in 2004 after reading about one reporter's horrible experience when he got rounded up with a group of peaceful protesters. You can read the article here: http://www.2600.com/rnc2004/

Morning

the dust of yesterday

still fills my nostrils

I'll never wake up in a good mood again

never eyes closed in the afternoon sun

but blanched white and… Continue

A bit of poetry

Cycles

Quiet pool

Still and cool

bathed in the golden light of morning

and he rises from green meadows

Gentle breeze upon the grass

Silvery light too soft to last

caressing blue daffodils in violet haze

and he lays his head in shadow

Rueful daybreak in smokey gloom

Single minded destiny and another's doom

pestilent greed, the pool is black

and he fills the skies with thunder

A hot white flash… Continue

Thanks for keeping the Examiner spot going. I thought of an idea of something that you could write about. I'm going to send you an email about it right now.

Thanks,
Micah

Oh, and I just caught your message with your theory. Am not sure that it applies in my case, but it makes me feel a little better today!
Thanks for sharing!

Hey Jerome,

I just wanted to let you know that you are not the only atheist in the hamilton, guin, winfield area. While i dont live in hamilton (i actually live in guin), i attend school at bevill hamilton campus. Its good to see that there is someone else down here that is resistant to the barrage of inane babble that is religious talk

Hey Jerome,

Hamilton is a bit of a drive to Florence. For what it is worth, I wouldd like to invite you up to my neck of the woods and come to one of the Florence United Nontheist (FUN) meetups. I am the organizer. The meetup page is pretty well closed, so that in the closet atheists can stay in the closet if they wish. Dinners are held on the 3rd Sunday of every month. Meetings are on Saturdays and Sundays.

I have driven that atleast that far to go to a freethinker meetup before.

Also, there is an inactive meetup group in Tupelo, MS, which is sad.

In reason,
Micah Cochran

How open are you in your community? Does your family know about your beliefs, or lack of them.

I guess your are the only Atheist in Hamilton. I live in Tuscaloosa and haven't found any here yet.
