Rick Perry, As We Say in KY: "Put Up or Shut Up!"

Posted on August 19, 2011 at 12:36pm 3 Comments

This may be less than timely, but whatever.

How many times does Texas Gov. Perry have to be snubbed by "the Lord" before he gets it?

April 2011, Texas is starting to suffer widespread drought for which there is no impending meteorological relief. Rick Perry organizes a "prayer" holiday for rain and the drought gets worse, continuing to this very day. Any good witch doctor knows you need to see the clouds building in the west before you schedule the rain dance.…

How to Become an Atheist in 35 Years or Less

Posted on August 13, 2011 at 1:30pm 4 Comments

I blame my parents.

All through my life, my parents taught me to question everything. "Don't believe everything the preacher says. Look it up for yourself." I suppose their honest intention was to keep me from being pulled in by a heretical cult, but this admonition along with my naturally inquisitive mind led me on a path they cannot fathom.

My parents made two other big mistakes with regard to my remaining a theist. First, they raised me as a Southern…

Mom, I'm an Atheist OR Mom, Your Grandchildren are Catholic

Posted on August 5, 2011 at 6:00am 7 Comments

What a year I've had!

After having dealt with my wife becoming Catholic (with my blessing) and currently taking part in a community theater production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, my children (ages 8,5, and 11 mo) were baptized into the Roman Catholic Church.

My wife realizes how difficult this is for me. After all, she is one of a handful… Continue

Trial or Wrath?

Posted on July 8, 2011 at 2:12pm 1 Comment

Why is it that when a Christian (or other "person of faith") is blighted with illness or confronted with a natural disaster it is a "trial," but when a nonbeliever or "sinner" has an identical problem it's called God's wrath?

God destroyed New Orleans because of its pagan festivals and perversity, but left Bourbon Street virtually untouched. Apparently, perversity is code for "being black and/or poor" in American Christianity.

Meanwhile, I overheard a woman at my local…

Hi Jeremy. I have a hand raised cat from a rescued close to feral litter. I took her to my local veterinarian to be spayed. He bought suture material from a discount supplier with several other veterinary practices. The sutures were all contaminated. My cat got infected and abscessed and had to have necrotic tissue abated and the spay redone. Was it worth it? Did the veterinarian care about my pet? I think the outcome goes to intent.
