Most of my Potter merchandise is from Hot Topic. I always raid the clearance rack a couple of weeks after a new movie comes out, because you can pick up keychains, postcards and the occasional t-shirt or jacket (the larger sizes tend to go quickest,…
I bought the set of Royal Doulton Hogwarts House Mugs on ebay back when they were about $3.00 each. The last time I saw one of these cups on ebay the auction was at $150 pound sterling, so around $300 US. I used to use them all the time - in…
Totally agree about the Quidditch World Cup. The only thing I was okay with about was that they put the stadium partially in-ground, and I liked that simply because it looked cool. :) I guess they had to get around using Winky somehow, so they just…
Ooh, the trinket box does sound cool.
I live out of a motorhome the size of a walk-in closet, so I'm limited on how much swag I can put in it. So far, it's just my Ravenclaw scarf and tie. Figure they are practical for use other than just…
I remember the day fondly. Sitting in Mr. Applebaum's fourth grade religion class at my Catholic school. Suddenly, this thought passes through my mind. I sit up straighter, wrinkle my brow, and raise my hand. "Mr. Applebaum?" I say. "This doesn't make any sense. None of this makes any sense." And here I am today. :)
I read. A lot. I don't own a TV. I do own a cat. I love puns, tattoos, band tees, steampunk, striped socks, and Oxford commas. I also love fried chicken. I hate the Red Wings. I moved to Chicago from St. Louis almost three years ago, and I'm happy every day that I escaped. :)
Jenniffer -- Welcome to A|N and to the Linguaphiles etc. group. I see you're kind of in my neck of the woods -- I'm out on the southwest side of Elgin.
Hi Jenniffer
You did well that day at school.
Welcome to this great Nexus meeting place and its thousands of bright people like you who recognise religion for the superstition and giant fraud that it is---
and that gods exist only as fictions inside people's heads.

As for the AADV:
As a person that hasn't been involved in a abusive relationship, I do not have stories about personal experiences; however this subject dear to my heart. I you have a story to share, please share it.
With every story that I hear about domestic violence, there are a lot of parallel stories; It only happened only, it only happens when..., I should not have done... . How long is too long what is too far?
From my point of view, even a abusive language is too far. In 12 yrs of marriage to my best friend, we have never verbally abuse or physically abused each other. My wife and I mutually respect each other so much that we could not and would not do something like that. When verbal or physical abuse occurs, it show how much the offender feels that he/she is above the other person and has little to no respect for that person.
I hear how her best friend is spoken to by her husband and I get pissed, but I cannot get involved because the only person that can make that decision is the best friend.
In another case, my sister in law was physically abused by her husband. I attempted to assist in this situation and ended up making matters worse.
My goal for this discussion and group is to discuss these type of issues, as well as provide real life information to assist in these situation without getting directly involved.
Please feel free on expanding upon this topic, as well and giving any input that you feel that can assist people in these type of situations.
