Evidence is always king. I have never seen anything with my own eyes but my mother, also an athiest/skeptic, called me one recent morning telling me about the ones she saw. She gave a detailed drawing and watched them with…
Hayley, that's certainly good judgment to vow to being without an intimate companion over having one and launching into a family hood that's really not your own dream. If you indeed live up to the commitment of parenthood your life…
Hayley, seems like it would be easier to find men who don't want to sign upto parental responsibility than the other way around. The evolutionary fingerprints are all over the place, that the females have evolved to take (sexual) relationships…

Wow, that FB page is rampant with religious furry. That's what you get when impassioned thoughts run unrestrained by evidence. It's a wicked shouting match all on the grounds that "everyone is entitled to a belief", regardless of…
Boy, how do you talk about it with your kids? Seems like it couldn't be discussed.? My wife and I both atheists talk openly about how people believe nearly everything only if there is good evidence, except when it comes to these mythological…
Dogma? An athiest wanders out of the cold into "the group" on their own, often lonely accord. Reason alone is often the only evangalism. But the religions can only throw the most disgusting insults in response to solid evidence. Not so…
I put a FSM sticker on my car and to my great joy, a coworker made himself known. Now we'll never see each other the same. :) I like to imagine a time when we take it for granted that people search for meaning in their lives without the…
There is plenty of intellectualism to be had about the purpose of Humanity, or lack of it. But the more useful questions (in the way religion makes their failed attempt) speak to how individual humans, you and me, assign our own life's meaning.…
I love the process of understanding this remarkable Universe and what it means to be sentient. I understand why believers could opine that it seems so impossible for humans and consciousness to come into existence without careful design. But all we have come to know about the history and evolution of life on Earth, the randomness of human “catastrophe”, and the suffering flatly displaces the god concept. Consistently, there is nobody there to save us. But “with ignorance all things are possible.” This is the heart of my atheistic frustration at religion.
I have felt this way since early adulthood. My parents both fled fundamentalist religions, sheltering me from our culture’s indoctrinational forces. Thankfully, they provided a thoughtful and contemplative environment for me to develop the courage to accept reality for what ever it turns out to be. I am still on a quest to understand what that is. Frustrating to me is religion’s empty simplistic promises that send would be friends pretending to rereat to an ultimate shelter from suffering and disappointment, and being staunchly amazed by it. How does one enjoy the quest of figuring out how best to live this life with companions who will ultimately bail out for this fantasy? That so many people are like this, sadly, thwarts the size of my friendship circle. I’m encouraged by this and many other sites that promote interconnection of people who will not abort into fantasy just when the conversation is getting somewhere! If this strikes a chord with you, let me know!

Hi, I am new to St. Louis! I read you attend the Ethical Society here. I am wondering what sorts of things are involved with that? Like, is it very "churchy" (with the whole singing and sitting and standing and all that)? Do you have lots of social events? Do you happen to attend the St. Louis Atheist Meetup Group events (I'm a member)?
I'm looking to possibly attend atheist family events, and I'm going to be organizing some family-friendly meetups for my group. I am hoping to find a sort of "home base" for us, in case we need a large indoor area to meet. I'm wondering if the Ethical Society could provide that for us.
Either way, feel free to join the discussion here: http://www.atheistnexus.org/group/parentinglittleheathens/forum/topics/ideas-for-atheist-family-group
Thank you very much Jay! I must say, your profile is rather interesting as well and I love “with ignorance all things are possible". Welcome to Atheist|Nexus!
Hi Jay,
Thanks for the friend add. I like your expression, "With ignorance, all things are possible". In fact, that will now be part of my collection of quotes!
