I am in agreement with the core of concepts posted here. But, why do the producers of videos think that loud audio-drowning music is a good idea. All it does is make understanding the audio difficult and in many cases impossible. Also, in the same videos many speakers use a subdued volume of voice which adds to the problem. As a case in point, I was able to understand about 50% of the video dealing with afterlife. Perhaps a version with subdued music and higher voice volume could be posted so…See More

"Decent as a music video, but useless otherwise. Why play background music so loud that any speech is drowned out to the point of being undecipherable. Where was Dawkins ? Was the small portion of audio on this video him ? If so, why, again, have the…"

Here are the main reasons that religion persists:1. Handling death or other tragedies.2. Gaining social acceptance.3. Avoiding social rejection.4. Most people on this planet are willfully ignorant and proud of it.5. Politicians find religion useful for controlling the populaces.6. Religion has been given a sacred cow status. You can't criticize religion, why ?, because you can't. Here is what is wrong with religion:1. Most wars and evil are caused directly and/or indirectly by religious…See More

How long is a day

Posted on July 15, 2011 at 10:34am 3 Comments

When discussing the age of the universe. I sometimes run into the statement "How long is a day". This is an attempt by theists/deists to reconcile the actual age of the universe (13+ billion years) with the 6 days (or 6000 years) in some scriptures.

My first reaction is "You're nuts", but I don't think that would be persuasive. I sometimes try "calling a dog a cat does not change all dogs to cats". But, I am looking for something better. Any suggestions ?

In discussions with theists/deists, I run into a statement that I am not sure what would be an apprpriate response. My first reaction is "you're nuts", but I don't think that will be persuave.

So, I am looking for responses to the statement when discussing the age of the universe (13+ billions years old),

"How long is a day". This is a response I get from some theists/deists who try to reconcile the age of the universe with the 6 days in some scriptures. I sometimes try…
