An agnostic atheist

Posted on October 1, 2010 at 1:23pm 2 Comments

When T. H. Huxley coined the term 'agnostic' he based it on the Greek word gnosis (knowledge). He intended the term to mean a manner of examining knowledge, the practice of skepticism when determining whether or not to accept something presented as knowledge or 'truth' as valid… Continue

A moral dilemma

Posted on January 15, 2010 at 10:02pm 1 Comment

Back in September of 2009 I posted a story on my frethink.com blog regarding the pending deportation of an individual to his home country, a country that still lives by social codes common to the 1st century. Had he been deported he faced execution for apostasy. Laws against apostasy (renouncing the state religion) and heresy (speaking out against the state religion) are still common in middle-Eastern countries. I wanted to highlight this story because the injustice embodied in his story needed… Continue

Blasphemy or the Truth

Posted on October 28, 2009 at 10:08pm 1 Comment

While I respect the right of any person to believe as they wish, I also believe that the right to speak our minds freely and without fear of reprisal, intimidation or sanction is a hallmark of Western democracy. We should not surrender our rights in order to provide uncertain security in the face of violent opposition to contrary opinions. Ben Franklin wrote, “Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety”.

Hitchens, Down and Out in Beirut

Posted on February 18, 2009 at 9:00pm 2 Comments

I don't know if this is true or not, but it is reported here that:

"Christopher Hitchens is currently in Beirut sponsored by the same group that owns that crap NOW Lebanon. He got in a few nights ago and surprisingly went out drinking. On his way out of the bar he saw an SSNP poster and wrote on it "Fuck the SSNP". There just happened to be some SSNP thugs near by--most likely asking people for their ID,… Continue

Hey Jack, It seems I have far too many internet addictions!! AN is one I hadn't investigated thoroughly. Figured I'd check back and see what I've been missing. I found a music application for my profile page...that should keep me grounded here more often. I'll be seeing you around : )

That photo presentation was laugh-out-loud funny! Thanks for that. I wish I could download some of them!

I'm trying an experiment. I've removed the Google ads from my three most visited blogs and replaced them with a Chipin donation box like the one Brother Richard uses on Atheist Nexus. I think it's less "in your face" than the ads. Google ads, while contextual were often off the mark, offering links to Xtian and other suspect religious sites. I think it's also more friendly, directly requesting help in paying for hosting costs. It's saying that if you appreciate the content, help support the blog.
We'll see if it produces any results. My Google ads certainly weren't providing any income. Now my readers/friends can directly provide much-needed financial support if they wish.

Actually there are two Radical Atheist blogs. I mistakenly posted the RSS feed to the one not maintained.

http://radicalatheist.com/?feed=rss2 is the feed for the active blog. Sorry for my confusion. ;)

I replied on your page, Lorry, but for anyone else wondering, it's http://radicalatheist.wordpress.com/feed/

I appreciate every subscription.

I posted this in the Bloggers group, but the clumsy way AN handles threads means I am not confident you will ever see my reply on page 5 of the thread, and as it's been five days, I thought I'd try this.

I'm trying to subscribe to the RSS for Radical Atheist, but the RSS link on the page itself is an http link rather than a feed link. When I use the RSS button in my browser's address bar I get a "too many redirects" error. Where exactly is your feed?
