About Me
So much time, money, tears, and blood is spent on religion. People trying to please an imaginary God who does not exist. This greatly saddens me, and I can only hope that one day people can break away from religion like I have done.

Thanks for posting this. Things like this should be opt-in, not opt-out. What's sad and worrying is that this sort of thing is happening so much now, people are starting to shrug it off.

@Grundgetta, very good point & link. I never thought of the issue that way. I'll have to keep that in mind the next time someone argues for so-called "traditional" marriage as opposed to same-sex marriage.

@Jason: Would you please add that to this list? @IAmTheBlog: The Bible makes clear that marriage is God's idea rather than a social contract that we are free to renegotiate based on changing social trends. Ah, but which type of marriage?

@ Jason, good question. Hard for something to transcend itself. Then again, we're talking about a religion that teaches bread turns into flesh and wine into blood, so... @ Jim, I agree, but there have been a number of constitutionally shaky decisio…

I didn't catch the commercials (we canceled cable and don't have a converter yet), but I did hear about Wamp's comments. I love how Christian politicians and spokespeople talk about things like "Judeo-Christian" roots (instead of just Christian) to…

Once more the US Constitution trumps the stupidity of the " Good book". Only an extremely bias judge would have found prop 8 to be constitutionally sound.

I think it's great she left organized religion, but is she really thinking critically here? Rice says her un-organized religion consists of the following (via LA Times): "It’s talking to God, putting things in the hands of God, trusting that you’re…

"...a covenantal union of one man and one woman established by God for a purpose that transcends itself." How does something transcend itself? Or is that a euphemism for masturbation?

Good response to him. I really don't get it how people can honestly think that without god watching over them, that they would do all sorts of nasty things: from wishing ill on cancer patients to rape and murder. I guess they're so brainwashed they…

Very interesting info and video. I've heard of the not-taking-the-hat-off incident, but had no idea what had happened beforehand or how he was killed for it in such a savagely cruel way.

[PS I know there are some conservatives who support same-sex marriage. It's true though that almost everyone who's vocally opposing it are conservative religious groups].

Loren, I completely agree. They're criticizing the decision just because they disagree with it, not on what the Judge actually found in his ruling. Since they and/or the Bible disagrees with the decision, then they figure the Judge MUST be wrong! I…

I'm still confused as to how the judge's orientation ties into it all. A judge's only reverence is the law. If it were seen that he is unfit to uphold this reverence he would be removed from the position. Funny how he was appointed by a Christian c…

Hmph. "Judge Walker's decision is a jumbled mess..." mostly because: He disagreed with the proponents of Prop 8 The reasoning of his decision covered virtually every aspect regarding WHY gays and Lesbians should be permitted this right, leaving th…

Good news. The local CFI fought this last year and when we last checked, this ban had been lifted and was no longer in effect. Once school starts again, we will have a member who is a teacher check and see if the ban has been reinstated.

Welcome to Atheist Nexus with its thousands of good friends.

Try joining groups like the busy discussion group ORIGINS (Origins: Universe, Life, Humans, Evolution, Religion..... ).

I have been running a long discussion there about being "Proud to be Atheist" as we all should be,
seeing that we hold the intellectual high ground over the nonsense of the irrational, superstitious god believers.

"The gospel is deeply serious while Judge Walker's decision is a jumbled mess of sloppy thinking." (That's funny; I would have said the exact opposite.)

As most people who follow the news likely know, California's Proposition 8 (the ban against same-sex marriage in that state) was just overturned last week in federal court. There will of course be appeals, but this is a major step towards the legalization of same-sex marriage not only in California, but if it survives appeal, possibly at the national level.

Opt-out required for school prayers? Teacher fired for a 2nd time

It is against both Tennessee and U.S. law to lead public school students in prayer. But some people just won't stop breaking the law and trying to find ways around it. Should students have to opt-out in order to be spared from teacher-led prayers?

According to WLBT news, "A Franklin County High School teacher was fired on Tuesday for leading her students in prayer in the classroom," At first this sounds li… Continue
