About Me
So much time, money, tears, and blood is spent on religion. People trying to please an imaginary God who does not exist. This greatly saddens me, and I can only hope that one day people can break away from religion like I have done.

The religious have to control the flow of information because they can't handle the truth.

Is it actually being actively protested? And the regular government websites do the same things, but they also ban a lot of abrahamic religous sites as well... I can still access some it's only certain sites that are blocked...but schools tend…

If I have to pick one answer, I'd say F.   But like a lot of people I'm sure, it's not as clear-cut as that. It was a mixture between being mad at my god, after my allegedly just god let or made two close family members suffer…

Atheist plaque combats Christmas display in MS: is this a good thing?

Jackson, MS is the among latest cities in the news that are having illegal Christmas displays challenged. FFRF (Freedom From Religion Foundation) has put one of their plaques in the Capitol building next to a nativity scene placed there by the Mississippi 9/11…See More

Thanks everyone for your comments. Sorry not to reply sooner, it's been a rough few months for me and a lot to catch up on.   @Nathaniel Theising Glad to hear that this was being fought by CFI. Did you get any confirmation that is has been…

Hey good on them! Ban a few supernatural sites and the glare of student's gaze will be focused squarely on the craziness of the few that are left...

It definitely gets easier. It took me years of struggling with it before I was comfortable thinking of myself as an atheist. One of the main reasons I started doubting about god in the first place was that I didn't understand how he could left…

This does not surprise me in the least. I unfortunately live here. They also block non-theist websites in my workplace.

Christians pick & choose verses to shove down people's throats. Why can't they impose the "you must not work at all one day a week" thing?

Thanks for posting this. Things like this should be opt-in, not opt-out. What's sad and worrying is that this sort of thing is happening so much now, people are starting to shrug it off.

@Grundgetta, very good point & link. I never thought of the issue that way. I'll have to keep that in mind the next time someone argues for so-called "traditional" marriage as opposed to same-sex marriage.

@Jason: Would you please add that to this list? @IAmTheBlog: The Bible makes clear that marriage is God's idea rather than a social contract that we are free to renegotiate based on changing social trends. Ah, but which type of marriage?

@ Jason, good question. Hard for something to transcend itself. Then again, we're talking about a religion that teaches bread turns into flesh and wine into blood, so... @ Jim, I agree, but there have been a number of constitutionally shaky…

Once more the US Constitution trumps the stupidity of the " Good book". Only an extremely bias judge would have found prop 8 to be constitutionally sound.

Welcome to Atheist Nexus with its thousands of good friends.

Try joining groups like the busy discussion group ORIGINS (Origins: Universe, Life, Humans, Evolution, Religion..... ).

I have been running a long discussion there about being "Proud to be Atheist" as we all should be,
seeing that we hold the intellectual high ground over the nonsense of the irrational, superstitious god believers.

As most people who follow the news likely know, California's Proposition 8 (the ban against same-sex marriage in that state) was just overturned last week in federal court. There will of course be appeals, but this is a major step towards the legalization of same-sex marriage not only in California, but if it survives appeal, possibly at the national level.

Since Christianity is all about… Continue

A universal sentiment for atheists and believers alike.

My mother died suddenly and unexpectedly last month. She died from what appears to have been a massive stroke. She had just seen a doctor, and while she had a few relatively minor health issues (as many 50-somethings do), she had just seen a doctor… Continue

Opt-out required for school prayers? Teacher fired for a 2nd time

Posted on May 31, 2010 at 12:30pm 3 Comments

It is against both Tennessee and U.S. law to lead public school students in prayer. But some people just won't stop breaking the law and trying to find ways around it. Should students have to opt-out in order to be spared from teacher-led prayers?

According to WLBT news, "A Franklin County High School teacher was fired on Tuesday for leading her students in prayer in the classroom," At first this sounds… Continue
