“Conspiracy to Riot in Furtherance of Terrorism”…what?

I’m posting this article verbatim from TCIM in the hopes that people will read it and pass it along. Think what you will of activists and protesters but this, by any measure, is absurd. The original post can be found here at Twin Cities Indymedia. While it’s true that we don’t know what the true [...]

RNC – Local News from the Street

By all accounts day one of the RNC, though scaled way back and void of political rhetoric, went off without serious incident. Of the 15,000 some-odd estimated protesters in attendance (i’ve seen estimates as high as 20k and low as 10k so I’m saying 15k) the county’s final tally on arrests and charges for the [...]

Episode 1.04 and last minute change of plans

It’s funny sometimes how quickly things can change. I recorded this show this afternoon with plans to go out later in the evening. I got behind schedule, became subject to an impromptu dog-sitting, had to scrap my plans and found out that John McCain had all but canceled the RNC activites for Monday…all in [...]

We will act as Americans, not partisans

ST. PAUL, Mn. – John McCain tore up the script for his Republican National Convention on Sunday, casting himself as above politics as Hurricane Gustav churned toward New Orleans. “We will act as Americans, not partisans”, he declared. McCain orders GOP convention curtailed because of Gustav; Bush, Cheney cancel There is still going to be a rather [...]

About Me
Podcast has gone live! Check it out at the link above.

I've created some fun, positive atheist minded gear on Cafe Press. All profits up until October 30th will go to help support Atheist Nexus. Baby clothes, shirts, underwear (yep...), buttons, stickers and all sorts of stuff. More likely on the way.

My real name Clinton. I comment on a lot of blogs and websites with "Hessenroots" so I tend to stick to that in dealing with the net. Hess, HR, Hessen, Clint or Clinton will suffice...I'll answer to pretty much anything.

I leave both on pretty much all the time so feel free to hit me up.

Armchair geek, freelance graphic artist, aspiring radio personality, Sudoku addict and all around swell guy.

27 years new, living just north of Minneapolis, Minnesota (find the middle of Canada on a map and go south a ways).

Raised by an atheist father and agnostic mother to make my own choices and decide for myself. Around age 12 I felt the need to "seek god" and looked at what various religions were saying. Nothing fit and it all seemed a little insane.

Sarcasim, dry-wit and blunt (if not brutal) honesty are my weapons of choice. I love a good discussion or debate as long as it's not cyclic nonsense.

I have a deep interest in biology, physics (quantum more so) and archeology but I'm not formally educated in anything. I'm an armchair geek at best.

Politically I'm hard to nail down but I find myself in favor of the Libertarian party and what it stands for.

I'm single by choice and happy with that. I've too much else going on to worry about the insane social pressures of a formal relationship. Some say I just haven't met the right person while I question if that person exists and what, exactly, is meant by 'right person'.

My long time love for the dying art of radio is driven by Ira Glass and David Sedaris.

Feel free to say hello or start up a conversation, it is a social network after all :)

Favorite quotes:
"We are both atheists, I just believe in one fewer god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours."
- Stephen F. Roberts

"Tens of millions of Americans, who neither know nor understand the actual arguments for or even against evolution, march in the army of the night with their Bibles held high. And they are a strong and frightening force, impervious to, and immunized against, the feeble lance of mere reason."
-Isaac Asimov

"There is no harm in doubt and skepticism, for it is through these that new discoveries are made."
-Richard Feynman

" There is a theory which states that if ever anybody discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened."
- Douglas Adams

"Every normal man must be tempted at times to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin to slit throats. "
- HL Mencken

"As nightfall does not come at once, neither does oppression. In both instances, there is a twilight when everything remains seemingly unchanged. And it is in such twilight that we must be most aware of change in the air - however slight - lest we become unwitting victims of the darkness."
- Justice William O. Douglas

Electrogravetic force? Sure thing...

Bored? Tired of creationist woo but still looking for a dose of pseudo-science wackiness?

Might I suggest "THE ELECTRIC UNIVERSE" and all things contained within.

Gravity is just electricity but all these "ignorant" main stream scientists refuse to admit it, choosing to waste money and time on stuff they know can't be true!

*facepalm*

This article is just the tip of the iceberg...

Palin babbles; Iraq war a "task from god"

Palin speaking before her church (assembly of god church; IE dominionists) proclaiming the Alaska pipeline as "gods work" and the war in Iraq as "task from god".

90% of this is 'woo' and, honestly I find it a little boring but I don't think we need politicians in any seat of power thinking that war is tasked by deities. Her… Continue

Cloned animals taste just as good!

File under stupid:

Clones' offspring may be in food supply: FDA

"It worries me that this technology is out of control in so many ways," said Charles Margulis, a spokesman with the Center for Environmental Health. The possibility of offspring being in the food supply "is just another element of that," he said.

Campbell Brown grills McCain spokesperson; reduces to blubbering fool

Watch as McCaininite Tucker Bounds gets put against the ropes trying to defend Palin's qualifications. His "I know you are but what am I" style responses are expected (throwing the entire question aside to attack Obama) but then tries to claim that Palin has military command experience, making her perfect for the role of defacto commander in cheif!

Apparently her "command" of the Alaska National Guard makes her totally qualified to be president should need be...wow.

It's hard for me to imagine being raised atheist! I'm so used to parenting being described as "helping your child find his/her way to god" that it's hard to get that out of my system.

I don't think that there's *anyone* who wouldn't think those sorts of things are clearly in the realm of a sexual proposition. The gray area is more like when potentially ordinary conversation goes on but is... kinda "friendly".

Exactly SGecko. I can't believe that we have to even come up with a straight-faced answer to whether or not there could have been a sudden global flood that covered everything. It's like having to give a straight-faced answer to "The moon is made ...
