Hi Hemant! As well as hosting the Aussie/Kiwi group here on Nexus. I'm also the media and communications consultant for the forthcoming "Rise of Atheism" Global Atheist Convention to be held in Melbourne in March 2010. The Convention is being organized jointly by Atheist Alliance International and the Atheist Foundation of Australia.

I wonder if you could let your members know that tickets for the convention are now available online at the Convention website. We are expecting nearly 3,000 delegates, so this convention is going to be huge.

Confirmed speakers include: Richard Dawkins, AC Grayling, PZ Myers, Dan Barker, Peter Singer, Taslima Nasrin and many more.

Anything you can do to help us get the word out would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for accepting my friend request. Your blog is probably one of my two favorites (right up there with PZ Myers' blog, which is saying something).

So yeah! Internet high five to you!

Happy to be a new member! Won't be in Chicago next weekend, it's a bit far to travel from Melbourne, Australia, but I hope all non-theists enjoy themselves! Am a regular visitor to the Friendly Atheist site and also a great fan of Austin Cline at About.com.

No problem. I actually found this site through the link on your blog. We may come to your gathering in Chicago next weekend, if it's open to the public. I am always looking forward to meeting other like-minded people. And, of course, I am a big Skepchick fan too!

That's pretty interesting and I'm fairly sure there are some drugs involved with the developements of such theories. I'm a science fiction fan so when I think of the future I think of mega computers which could allow us to analyze huge amounts of ...

Hmm, I think it would feel awesome and liberating to sunbathe nude. Never really had a place to do that though.

You may live in one of those rare places that aren't hospitable to most wildlife, the sort of a place where only a human being (and their four-legged hangers-on, like rats and coyotes) would, or could, willingly reside. In any case, once a cat ha...

I stood up last night at a Central Forum. AA New York only holds 4 of these each year in the U.S., and this weekend it was in my home town. I stood up and identified myself as the GSR for the Atheists and Spirituality group, and I know I heard a f...

this is also why I support the liberal idea of preventing crime by helping people slums and impoverished communities rather than making harsher punishments for them. The prevention of crime is more important then the "revenge" aspect of punishment

Pascal came from a culture steeped in Christianity, its influence, its dominance, and its fear-mongering. Science in his time was hardly in its infancy, and the brand of rational thought we enjoy now was a stark rarity in his time. Anyone in Pasca...

(In =P) my experience, people who know that their bad behavior will go unpunished are more likely to act badly in the future. ok, but that is rather childish thinking. I don't think that a lot of people here are like that. We are all here pursuin...

Why do we exist? As far as I can tell, we're here simply as the result of a series of fortunate accidents. Life arose on this planet by natural processes and humans are just one of the myriads of experimental life forms that evolution produced.

To my experience, people who know that their bad behavior will go unpunished are more likely to act badly in the future. We still have the ability to observe the effects of cause and effect and this does effect our behavior. What you've described...

As far as we can tell the universe is a closed system. There are numerous theories on parallel or multiverses but they are far too speculative at this point. It is difficult to comprehend that something so vast be closed. I can not identify a loca...
