We debate origins of the Universe, life, Earth, humans, religion, atheism, using common sense, evolution, cosmology, geology, archaeology, and other sciences, to repel biblical creationism and other religious beliefs.
"Hang in there, you have lots of stuff coming at you at your age but it sounds like you already have a good sense of yourself, stick with it. I only wish I'd had access to the information available to you with the net and you found AN which is a…"
"Well they did come in May not April and signed it when I was at school,I couldn't highlight the bad junk because I had hidden it from my dad.And he found it.
They also debated me, when i was in no shape to do so,hehehe. but I didn't make…"
"A lot of people are giving you advice and some of it is sound. The main thing is to remain calm and civil. We don't convince others that atheists are reasonable, sane, thinking, rational people unless we act like reasonable, sane, thinking,…"
"Thank them, as you would anyone who gives a gift meant to help you. They are not trying to harm you, but in their minds trying to protect you! So be kind and attentive.
You might also find a good book such as Dan Barker's, Losing Faith in…"
"Listen good guay when there are aggression or ill-logical arguments to deal with, we must deal them strongly. But when comes the question of loving relations, one must be a little more careful. Thier reactions are usually based upon loved based…"
"When we were young, I was 6 and my brother was 4 our maternal grandmother started trying to give me christian themed books and games for christmas and birthdays. It was my father who made it clear to her that if it continued then she would not be…"
"Argh! My mom did this to me when she realized I am definitely not a christian (she hasn't been told I'm an atheist yet) so I just flip through it highlighting passages I know she'll find uncomfortable.
The bible can be a useful tool…"
"I know I don't know you or your grandparents, but I come from a large family that was mostly religious, and I had a similar experience to yours when I was seventeen. So I'm going to make some assumptions when I say I doubt very much your…"
I wouldn't let Larry Rilea get to you if possible Andrew. He's a semi-theist in disguise and is making friends all over the place. (I was told a rebuttal I made to one of his facile arguments in trying to prove a creator was "unintelligent")
So look just ignore him.
P.S My mum bought me a bible recently (I'm 28 so I got to choose my own, I requested one with translations from the Greek. Now I've been told to stop annoying here by pointing out the inconsistencies and odd things as well as scientific illiteracy like talking donkeys (Numbers 22:28 ) Zombies invading Jeusalem (Matthew 27:52) , Moses committing murder and getting away with it. (Exodus 2: 11-15) God creating light/dark, and morning and night on Earth (Genesis 1:3-5) before creating stars (Genesis 1:14-20) - if this is the divine word of god, how come he didn't know the sun was a star? - or that the earth orbits it and not the other way around as in 2 kings 20:1, where God makes the sun move backwards ten degrees. Now that's quite a trick. All at once, the earth stopped spinning and then reversed its direction of rotation. Or maybe the sun traveled around the earth, a belief made more comprehensible if this book was written by people not gods. Similarly I'm in trouble for suggesting the doctrine of the Trinity was written in the 16th Century (1 John 5: 7-8) (No Greek manuscript prior to this date contains this description, highly suggestive it was knocked up in a monastery for order probably in German or Holland and entered the bible when it was translated into English for the KJV)
So, yes anyway - The bible - a fantastic recourse for atheism. Use it. ;-)
Welcome to A|N. It must be a challenge having to communicate with family who look down on you. If my friends saw my yt vids, they would also call me militant, but I try to be as calm as possible when dealing with Christians.
