Bit of a lurker here - I'm a newly-fledged podcast addict, having spent the past few months catching up on the complete archives of some top-notch shows including The Atheist Experience, The Non-Prophets, Chariots of Iron, et al... I was fortunate enough to be born in a place without much by way of 'in your face' theists (here in Brisbane), though I do see the occasional Raelian on a street corner! (I should invite him here, he is 'atheist' after all? lawl)
Most of my free time online is spent ripping on youtube idiocy, I would welcome anyone to join... You could even say it's a spectator sport ;)
I'm a fairly private person offline, but I do still know how to have fun :) I'm not sure what I'm looking to get out of Atheist Nexus, but I'm open to making new friends for sure!

Okay, got the 'nerd' part in the bag... Being rich comes next, right? Right?? :P

Cue an ultrasound of a fetus facepalming. Or jacking off. Ideally both. :P

Wow... That must suck - so they even have to dish out funds to have sex with *themselves*?? Holy crap xD
Maybe we should start a support organisation... and…
I'm not game to post a link to my actual Okcupid profile (I've been more candid there than I might usually be since I've kept it completely separate from all other sites I use), but I can *highly* recommend the site - I've spent…
"You need to be a member of Sam Harris to add comments!"
I thought his only claim to fame was his intellect and insight...
I didn't realize he had more than one member :P How anatomically curious xD And they can type, too? Holy crap!
While promoting atheism, Harris examines spirituality by means of considering philosophy, neuroscience and mysticism rather than displaying tacit disdain for it. He warns of the threat that fundamentalist religion poses to human progress and survival
Lisa, I'm sure there are some old people who have trouble wiping their bum too, should infants therefore have their buttocks amputated to make it somewhat easier?
Also, I refer you back to the 'medical benefit' rebuttal that's…

Well, this has mostly already been addressed by the other responders, but I'll point out that we are…
Maybe the Transhumanists aren't quite so nutty after all... It seems likely that our next leap of evolution will be self-driven and move in the direction of cybernetic (or perhaps biochemical/synthetic organic) augmentation ;)
LOL Nerd, that's exactly what I'd do, they won't put up the defenses if they think you're a woo-woo virgin :D
But I live in a gated complex so I'm never going to get the chance :(

They look similar yes, but the painting is different. I'll have to take a photo of them sometime- my 4 year old absolutely loves them. And I find foreign currency interesting whether it's colorful or not :P lol, but yes, it is colorful. Our money has actually been changing lately and a lot of older people claim it looks like monopoly money.. occasionally I worry that if I ever time travel into the past I wont' be able to buy anything because the money is no longer the same :P
they eat roo over there don't they? I've seen several groups protesting it (oddly usually the same people who eat cows, pigs, and chickens over here). My brother sent me a few photos of kangaroos, but he's not the best photo taker.
Cause they look pretty cool :) Many parts of Australia have very few indigenous people (aborigines), and most of the stuff the tourists see is probably atypical, though my parents do get kangaroos (practically) in their backyard (their property adjoins a nature reserve) :D
Regarding the $$, I'm guessing you think it's funny how colorful it is - I have heard from other Americans who compare Euros and AUD to Monopoly Money since they're used to plain ol' greenbacks :)
Next time you go on a trip to somewhere new, why don't you ask around the Nexus to see if you can get some freethinking locals to show you around? I know I'm going to do that when I get around to travelling - might even be able to cut costs a lot that way (tourists often get ripped off lol) :P
thanks for the friend Add :-) my brother just came back from Australia two days ago! He brought me back aboriginal stick things.. not sure what they're called.. they're just noise makers. I also got a magnet and some money ^_ ^
Hello, So far I like the website very much. Up until now I spent most of my time on Minekey and Facebook. This place is refreshing actually talking about topics other than having every single one become about the existence of god.
The best thing about being a teacher is that I get to be involved but I don't have to take the kids home at the end of the day!
Anyways thanks for the welcome and I'm sure I'll see you around.
I go back as far as Jon Pertwee episodes and I have seen very little before that though I read a few of the novelisations in my teens. There were a couple of cross over episodes where Patrick Troughton's doctor was used with later doctors so I have seen some of him in those. Like you I have become increasingly intolerant of advertising. We have Foxtel IQ at home which stores the stuff I tell it to record on a hard-drive like tivo so I fast forward through ads and yeah I like to let a series build up so I can watch a bunch all together if I want to. I'm the same with books now too, waiting to read a trilogy til all are released. :-)
