I hear you regarding the issue of being "spare." I just got done attending a performance of Mozart's "Cosi Fan Tutte," which is anything BUT ... and have seen a good portion of Adams' "Nixon In China," which hardly strikes me as minimalist at all ... and also gives to wonder if "minimalist opera" isn't a contradiction in terms!
