Hi Giselle
Welcome to this great international site and its thousands of bright people like you who recognise religion for the superstition and giant fraud that it is,
and that gods are only fictions inside brains cluttered with the stupidities of 'faith'.

Terry Meaden
originator of the busy discussion group
"ORIGINS: Universe, Life, Earth, Humankind, Fossils, Religion, Evolution, Darwin..." with its over 240 discussion topics.

We invite you to come and see, and to make good new friends.

I just published a draft blog post viewable to only my friends. I am inviting you view and comment before I post to 'that' thread. pointing out any weakness in my commentary would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Your comment "I'm kinda wondering if that's the general flavour here on this board or what.."

Yea, was beginning to think the same. I have been thinking "what happened to the thoughtful commentary that drew me to this board in the first place?"

I figured out that I was initially going directly into the Groups. Seems to be a little more adult conversation going on in there .

Where am I? I'm gearing up to make a 5 mile bike ride to Giant in 27 degree weather. I'll try to upload the GPS track.

As far as the thread, sometimes it's good to take a step back and let people talk. I don't have to respond to everything. Especially Giselle's loony hippy-dippy flax tampon comments ;)

Please don't go - if you do - the 'love is a dog from hell' people win. :^)

Look - I really don't buy into the supernatural myself. If it's real - then it is natural and we may, one day, discover it's validity. It's like Tim Minchin said - any form of 'alternative' medicine is either quackery ... or medicine.

Nevertheless, parsimony (see: Occam's razor) is an aesthetic since solipsism (perceptual experience) is inescapable.

By the way - the fact that Mykeru can't get out of the trap of perceptive reality any more than anyone else can, but insists that human consciousness is, somehow, individuated, relegated to utterly separate entities, and does not extend out as an attribute of the universe as a whole, is the cognitive dissonance that forces him (winky punctuation or no) to resort to fallacies such as ad hominem and assertion.

No need to be offended. He limits himself - not you. (If he even exists at all.)

BTW - My Mom and one of my brothers were born in Vancouver. That license plate of yours would be arrogant if not so true. I think that some people need to go out into the old forests of the Northwest (Southwest?) and tap into other forms of reality.

Also, I was the ninth baby born in what is now Labrador City, Newfoundland. I'm a Newfie, eh? What do I know aboat anay-thin'

Death of a family member

Posted by Larry Taylor on May 20, 2013 at 8:15pm 7 Comments

OK. I am venting. My mother died two weeks ago. She was a “god fearing christian.” Before her death she refused all medical treatment. She wanted to be left alone. She even refused to speak with my brother who is a methodist minister. He is a pip, let me tell you! I suspect she did not believe, but a woman born in her time could not and did not state her actual beliefs. This is the opening salvo to all christians; FUCK YOU! I had so many people come and tell…

Unbelievable!!!!!!!!

Posted by Christy Stewart on May 20, 2013 at 2:17pm 6 Comments

This probably should not have shocked me as much as it did (especially since I am in Texas). I actually thought my coworkers were playing a joke on me because they know I am an atheist. Sadly, this was no joke. This actually happened.

I work in a psychiatric hospital. The doctors who admit patients are general MDs. (Psychiatrists see patients after admission) Yesterday evening we received several calls from irate parents. A new doctor who was doing admissions yesterday actually…

anti-atheist rant from an Orthodox Mormon part 2

What do you think of this,

Nathan Young,

No Jason Torpy it is you that should be banned for promoting atheism, a belief that has no foundation in reality and zero proof behind it.  The letter was a mockery of your atheist beliefs.  I request to the board here that they remove Jason for his unverifiable beliefs in atheism for which he has no proof other than his arrogance.  The letter was a mockery of atheism.  Atheism is stupid and it should be mocked and it…

Anti-atheist post from an Orthdox Mormon

What do you think of this Facebook comment?

Nathan Young to Jason Torpy,

for once you and I can agree on something.  We should disrespect beliefs that are untenable such as the belief that there is no God.  Indeed for me to respect you Jason, I cannot respect your belief in non-belief in atheism.  Your atheism comes across as arrogrance, smugness, and self righteous.  Indeed after reading "An Open Letter to My Religious Friends" I penned one…
